Interesting article and tables about a teams perceived recruiting rank vs performance rank. http://www.codevision.com/frr/index.html
Great collection of data as it correlates “recruiting rankings” for the last five years with current actual achievements. The more positive the result, the higher the team performed over it’s mean average recruiting to this year’s final actual bowl ranking (i.e.: performance). For the SEC, here’s a list from best to worse… >>> These teams, in 2007, played better than their past recruiting would have predicted… Kentucky (+20.38) Vanderbilt (+9.81) LSU (+7.16) Arkansas (+0.93) >>> These teams, in 2007, played worse than their past recruiting would have predicted… Florida (-1.5) Georgia (-1.54) Mississippi State (-1.76) Auburn (-3.14) Tennessee (-7.79) South Carolina (-15.44) Alabama (-29.54) Mississippi (-53.12) While there are some flaws with the system. For instance, LSU shows as having one bad recruiting year, (2005 where we were ranked 20.5 in recruiting). Even taking that year out, our mean average in recruiting would have been 3.75 which would have still given us a 1.75 positive value. The worse performing team, Mississippi, has already replaced its coach for not producing anywhere near his team’s talent would have indicated. Interesting, Coach Nutt who had a +0.93 is off to Mississippi which bolds well for Ole Miss in 2008. Looking at the second worse team, Alabama. In all fairness, it was a transition year with all new coaches, but still, a very poor performance. Maybe they should try to go after the Vanderbilt or Kentucky coaches. Also, looking at the third worse team, South Carolina, maybe they need to look at a new coach as well.
