I know it's foolish to try and hide anything but if all of these issues in the article are violations then it is something entrenched in the system. One lesser known player gets this preferential treatment? Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I'll just stop there.

I got a rundown from a friend of mine but not all the details of the apartment which Akiem Hicks got a discounted rate to about half the regular price.

But McCarthy was very sneaky for the most part. LSU has a system in place where all the coaches cell phones are tied to a system which tells the coaches which recruits have been contacted, how many times, and if the recruit is restricted to anymore phone calls during the NCAA recruiting periods. For Example, during a Silent period a recruit can only get one call from any coach on the staff per week but coaches can talk to HS coaches as much as they want, etc... Well McCarthy went out and got a separate cell phone not tied to the system LSU put into place to deter us from making illegal contact. So Miles called Hicks because the system had no calls to the prospect from McCarthy during that time period.

I did not read the 55 page report but it seems like the illegal transportation was McCarthy paying for a flight for Hicks to come down for an unofficial visit. Not sure if any other transportation was provided once enrolled.

The other violation was a student worker paying for one lunch for Hicks which is minimal compared to the others.

Either way LSU acted immediately taking McCarthy off the recruiting trail and preventing Hicks from dressing out/playing any games. To go along with self-reporting the violations. I don't expect much punishment from the NCAA because of the way we responded and it is an isolated in nature (Only involving one coach and one recruit).

Anyone read into what punishments we self imposed? I would assume something along the lines of limiting the number of official visits or similar could be the result.

damn! sounds like it. if a coach wants to go rogue and circumvent measures put into place to follow the rules, there isnt a lot you can do. this does not sound anything like what ramprat is worried about.

i think this is the best thing lsu could have done and hopefully will tell the ncaa that the school is serious about following the rules. no, he wasnt gone right away, but in all fairness (and to keep from being sued) the school did have to conduct an investigation first. but that they kept him away from recruits instead of business as usual during that time is not taking the matter lightly.

but it pisses me off that mccarthy put the school in this position. f' him!

I heard through the grapevine that the self imposed sanctions were not nearly enough so the NCAA is considering forcing LSU to hire Orgeron and Kiffen as co recruiting coordinators so that the NCAA can eventually get something more tangible on Miles and LSU than what they currently hold in their hand. :hihi:.

Once the process is complete and you feel the need to appeal, please feel free to contact the University of Alabama. They should be able to recommend a number of unemployed lawyers with a ton of NCAA litigating and sanction experience.

Fortunately, given their recent track record, I understand their retainer fees are quite reasonable.

Can they get me a discount on textbooks? Being a poor grad student I could really use it.

I want one of them improper use of coed escort violations to be reported. Not at LSU mind you but maybe Miss, UF, South Carolina, or GA. Lots of visual evidence, too!

This cash, meals, and calls stuff is sophmoric.

So, say the NCAA decides to be *******s about this and limits our scholorship numbers. Will that effect this current class (2011) or a previous class?

If the NCAA does limit our scholarships for 2011, that would really hurt as we are already going to have to turn down a load of good home state talent in a great Louisiana class.

Let's hope the NCAA recognizes that we took responsibility and did not try to hide this. I'm not sure what else LSU could have done better in this situation outside of not hiring McCarthy in the first place.

Taking a scholarship would be extreme in my opinion given the trend. Teams on probation didn't lose any with additional violations. Even if they did take one it most likely wouldn't be this year. NCAA has the review the documents which takes a long time in most cases, to lose a scholarship they would likely have to do some investigating of their own, etc...

It would take at least a year for that whole process to go through if additional investigating takes place. Probably longer than that (see USC).
