It has always been like that. The main metropolitan areas where most talent comes from, Birmingham and Mobile, has a way a larger Alabama fanbase. Auburn has a larger following in Montgomery but Montgomery does not produce that much talent and most football players there move north to Prattville, but Prattville supplies talent to both schools.
