My LSU buddy had lunch with Butch Davis this week. (some of you may have read my post about this earlier) So Butch starts sharing about this story flying down to see Montgomery in SC (Weds or Thursday of this week?)... apparently the kid lives in a very rural area. The airport runway is a little better than a dirt road, a couple of crop dusters sitting off to the side, and a tin roof building.. You get the picture.. So Butch gets on the ground and he looks over to the left and he sees 4 really nice commercial Jets.. He sees LSU's private Jet, Bama Jet, Tennessee Jet, and I think he said VT and with UNC pulling in you can imagine what the country boy was thinking at the Airport? Butch said " now this is football recruiting " Apparently, Miss, Montgomery would really only spend quality time with Butch, about 1 hour.. That is why he feels fairly good they get Sam. So Butch sees Saban, shakes hands with Miles (has quick chat), sees Lane Kiffen, and thats about it(someelse?).. I think he said Sam had a Basketball practice or something at school.. all the coaches were at his HS So back to the lunch conversation, my buddy asks Butch about what he thinks of the LSU Defensive coaching hires, Cooper, Brick, Chavis... He said, " a great hire in Chavis" had tons of great things to say about Chavis.. Overall he said great work from Miles... Said Miles needed these hires, and with these staff changes LSU is solid on both sides. " They briefly talked about Saban, he said Saban is a great coach and is 100% and will win big, but he said he is really hard on his assistants, Butch just ran into an assist coach (name?) that just quit Bama for about half the pay. That coach said, "I just couldn't handle the perfection attitude anymore." He said Assistants work for Saban for about 2-3 years and move on because they can't take the stress, but looks good for their resume'" This we knew already, right.. But he said that is the only big knock on saban..Just no fun to work for, life is too short. Anyways, it's amazing all these big dollar HC fly in from all over for a late push just to shake hands with these kids "We want you" and have a brief word..Jet off to another recruit... I wish I had a photo of that Airport with those 5 high dollar jets sitting there ...
