Again, not a bust in terms of talent. In fact, much the opposite. He just couldn't stop peeking in houses and he had an IQ of 7.
Ran a search on Jerry Sevin. I seam to recall someone who knew him personally coming in and posting at some point and gave the whole story. Maybe its buried in one of these threads. Here is the thread on him leaving: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=13697&highlight=jerry+sevin Recruiting Booms Busts from 2007: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=49588&highlight=jerry+sevin Similiar from 2006: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=35202&highlight=jerry+sevin
Keiland Williams qualifies as a mini bust. He has contributed, but not near the hype as the top RB coming out of Hargrave, big battle with USC for him. I hope he changes my mind next season. Zhamal Thomas, the 5* OL didn't do much for all his hype as the best lineman in the state when he came out. Giddens was a 4* safety that didn't contribute.
:geaux: Wasn't it Thomas and Giddens that got busted for some kind of credit card/phone card scam or some stupid crap like that? Also, wasn't it Giddens who punched Barksdale. Believe that happened before the '07 season. In any case, both would qualify for a dumbchit award at the very least. :LSU231:
My intention was to look at just the past 5-6 years when LSU has really been at the top, but I do remember some of the older ones mentioned here. Another one from a ways back was "Juice" Williams. I think he was the Louisiana player of the year when he signed w/ LSU, and I can't remember anything about his time at LSU. Immagine if we started talking about the bust nation wide, how big this thread would get. As I said in my original post, I think one of the contributors to LSU's success is that the staff (both Saban & Miles) have done a good job of evaluating talent beyond the "experts" ratings, and have minimized the busts.
:geaux: Totally agree that both Saban and Miles have done great jobs in evaluating talent and minimizing the "busts". Many of their players who weren't ranked as high in the "experts" opinions really turned out to be superb players, i.e. Jacob Hester and others. We haven't had a real rash of busts since the DiNardo years, thank the Lord. :LSU231:
the reason people thought kevin franklin was better than dunn.... dunn was qb and franklin was rb. they ran the option with dunn keeping ball then pitch to franklin 25 yrds down field. franklin would get credit for all the yards.
Robert Davis is a great call by MCTiger. He was definitely highly regarded and did basically nothing. Good memory.
