Do we actually have paid recruiters who are not coaches? I thought about this when someone mentioned that Chad Jones was close to Jimbo Fisher. Since coaches leave quite often, and are so busy, it would be nice to have a long term recruiter who could bridge the gap when we lost assistant coaches. And why would Jones, a defensive back be so close to the OC?
No. That's done by the coaches. We have people like Charles Baglio (former Independence High School HC) who keeps in contact with all the high school coaches and stays on top of potential recruits. There is also an administrative recruiting staff that coordinates schedules, visits, etc. Coaches have geographic areas to recruit. It's more important for coaches to develop a recruiting pipeline with HS coaches in his recruiting area than to fly all over the country to recruit his position players. Recruits get a chance to meet with their potential position coach when they make their visit.
Coaches are assigned areas to recruit. They do not necessarily recruit kids who play the positions they coach. We have a recruiting coordinator & we also have a few students that help with recruiting (I hear we are slacking & need to get some hotter girls on there), but for the most part it is done by the coaches. Coaching turnover does affect recruiting, but they always try to get the kid to commit to the school, not the coaching staff.
