thats disgusting. and how long would it be till the equally disgusting "ill make sure my kid signs at XXX school for XXX dollars"? after all, if espn would get a bigger audience if a top prospect signed at mrbigshotschool rather than smalleraudienceschool.

Maybe the NCAA can make a rule that its illegal for a recruit or a family member to accept anything of value in exhange for information on recruiting or for the exclusive rights to information on recruiting. I'm all for not making this more of a circus than it already is.

I agree 100%. The exploitation of these kids is getting worse. Sadly though, the fans are driving this train. Just look at the hysteria that goes on around recruiting and how obsessing it is. People salivate just to get a little morsel of information. The fans are pouring millions of dollars into Rivals, Scout and the fan sites just to read insider scoop.

I know for a fact that a couple of production companies are developing models of this concept. Its already received the "we'll listen" from ESPN, CSS and others.

They are trying to push the concept as a win-win situation for recruits and families. They base it on the fact families and kids wont be bombarded with the hundreds of calls they receive now. The average top recruit is getting called by the recruiting services and school specific sites almost daily. All they will need to do is talk to one person and it eliminates all that hassle from their lives. The families will be compensated financially in order to hold off their kids announcing their intent.

Its a big business and if there is money to be made someone is going to be making it. Maybe those in power will develop a conscience and not move forward with this scheme. I wouldn't count on that though.

The NCAA only governs institutions, not the public. Right now there isnt anything in place that would prevent someone like ESPN from moving forward on something like this. I dont think the NCAA could prevent it. Those developing this concept will ultimately try to sell it as a benefit for the kids and say it will eliminate the circus. *shrugs*

I think they could police it by making it illegal for a recruit or guardian or other person close to a recruit to profit from this type of thing. Surely they already do that or a players friend could get big bucks for anything a player does.

They only prohibit institutions or their boosters from paying, not uninterested 3rd parties.

Isn't a booster a third party and not the institution ?

mis-worded. I meant to say schools, boosters, anyone affiliated or who could be tied to an institution can not pay a recruit/family member/friend/etc. A production company, network, recruiting service or anyone of that nature isnt prohibited from compensating a recruits family for exclusive rights to information. As long as they are an uninterested 3rd party and not steering, it would fly.

Wasnt Parso looking for a new career a while back? This would be right up his alley.

I hear what you are saying but don't the NCAA rules apply to the recruit as well. If so, why not to the family of the recruit?
