GET A BIG TEN QB.... OR GO MICKEY MOUSE... OFFENSE! I know this could be taken in a direction that is dangerous but I would like to throw out a thought..... I read the forums but hardly ever say anything.... I am not talking about Black vs White.... I am talking about thinkers vs non thinkers.... For the last 6 years LSU has tried to have the "popular look" at QB... Russell.... Ryan Par.... and now JJ.... we have never won with any of these players because they were never real QB's... the closest would have been Russell.... Lets try going to get a big pocket passer that knows the position... Yes it is great to have someone that is able to move around but none of those choices have gotten us very far in the last 6 years... We won National Championships with thinkers and average QB's.... Just a thought. We dont run the style of offense that even needs a QB that can move... we are not florida.... we hand to our backs off tackle or dive plays and play action fake... We need to go to a wide open offense with someone like Shepard or find a guy that can do the things that a Big Ten offense does... Why do you think Ohio State struggles on offense now.. they have the same problem.. they recruited an athlete that can not play Big Ten Offense QB... and they look stupid just like us... I thought JJ would be ok and had the tools to do so but it does not play out on the field... It just looks like our team and coaching staff is battling between themselves on the direction to go. Change the playbook and go to a Mickey Mouse offense like florida which they say Crowton knows well OR go get a freakin QB.... It is past stupid. P.S. The extended option play is the prime example - that looks uncomfortable to everyone involved.. Throw that play away!!! or at least run it to the wide side of the field !!!! SEE Georgia Tech SORRY IF THIS COMES ACROSS AS A RACE COMPARISON... IT TRULY IS NOT.....
Jarrett Lee was a highly-touted big pocket passer that broke most all of Tommy Hodson's Freshman quarterback records even though he only started 8 games. He had a freshman's knack for mistakes in the form of interceptions, but that is a coachable issue. But apparently he will never get another chance at LSU. He's likely gone in December and it's a damn shame.
2003 -- JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn 2004 -- none 2005 -- Ryan Perriloux 2006 -- none 2007 -- Jarrett Lee 2008 -- Jordan Jefferson 2009 -- Chris Garrett, Russell Shepard 2010 -- Zach Lee
I was thinking that last week. JJ is not playing that well, and if Lee is not going to get another shot with that play from JJ, he could be packing his bags soon. I think it depends if he thinks he is not getting fair treatment from the coaches, and if he has NFL aspirations, or is he just wants to play football real bad rather than ride the pine. There was a kid from Tx. A&M that got benched, maybe when Franchione showed up. He transferred to Stephen F. Austin for his Sr. season, started, and got drafted in the NFL. I don't think he made it, but he wanted a shot and I think he tried what he thought was the best route for him, starting in FCS division. I think he was right.
Lets see . . . THREE of those quarterbacks were rated the best at their position coming out of high school. (Russell, Perrilloux, Shepard) Teams don't recruit much better than that. But Russell left early, Perrilloux got dismissed way early, and Shepard hasn't earned the PT yet. LSU has had to start a new quarterback in each of the last three years. It's hard to establish continuity with that kind of turnover.
You are correct... Each of these were the highest rated recruits. People need to take a step back and stop paying attention to the sexy recruiting game..... Here's a point.... Our problem is the play calling and the struggle between the staff on the direction of the offense and our QB play.... We might have gotten the highest rated recruits but there is something about being able to translate and progress on the field This is a list of teams with "New" QBs. 1. Alabama 2. Auburn (had less attempts than JJ last year) 3. Arkansas 4. Miami Just to name a few! Each of these teams offenses would run circles around us.. Our main problem is 3 of them are in our division... Stop making excuses.... I have !
Alabama -- 21-year-old QB Auburn -- 23-year-old QB Arkansas -- 21-year-old QB Miami -- 19-year-old QB (did a lot worse in their big game vs. VT then JJ did against FL)
once again - excuse.... He has been in the program for 2 years.... wake up... Harris has beat Oklahoma (which has more pros on Defense than any team in the nation - per any scout) READ MY INITIAL THOUGHT...... THIS IS NOT A BASHING J.J..... THIS IS NOT
My point is we do not match the players we recruit with the schemes we run or if we do have them we do not put them in the fire. How does Shepard fit into the offense we are running on the field. Forget the QB. Look at the D line. We do not blizt the QB from the LB position and do not put Speed rushers on the field other than alem. If we are going to depend on the down four we need speed guys And last night we saw what that was. They got pressure from four, at most five and sometimes from three We have recruited these BIG lineman that are not speed guys and anyone should be able to see tha Point.. If the guys on the sideline do not match what you are doing on the field. You are going to be Talking about the things we are discussing. I don't see how people don't see the problem. They just go back to yelling how we have the best recruiting But bottom line the playersd don't mix. My biggest beef is why don't we put in sam mong on the edge
