Look, I will say this again just in case you missed it, the short version. I like good ol Nolan, sure he is a hell of a guy. He just talks to much for saying so little. Always hinting about this or that but would never come out and say it. Then when he did say something it was about how awesome Grimes was. Well...I rest my case.
This has likely been discussed, but Les for being a former OL and a coach of that position at various points really rarely put out a product in that regard commensurate with the school he was and the other talent in classes he could recruit. It was a weird deal, but Les did not get the best athletes on the line -- generally tackles or tight ends who can grow into being tackles. Les favored the guards and inside guys. It's why we would see Pocic at tackle but then at center and guard. Didn't Tuehema play guard and tackle? He will strictly be a guard in the pros. We only have like 11 guys on scholarship right now at the OL: spot. We need 18 or so. That's a tremendous area of concern. We also really started to fall off on the DL recruiting. Saban has stockpiled the best. Often his backups would likely start throughout our first team. That's an issue as well. Gone are the days of Williams and Wroten (JUCO guy), Brockers and Logan, or Dorsey and Ricky-Jean (who was a JUCO guys wasn't he?) .. I know we have had some talent at the OL spot. La'El was tremendous. Trai Turner. And others. However, they often left early. Notice sometimes Bama will have their best player sometimes at center and he'll stay all four years? I like the idea of finding a bunch of centers and tackles/tight ends who are athletic. Centers can play guard or center and those tight end and tackles are athletic enough that if they aren't quite good enough on the edge can be moved inside to guard. I expect the recruiting of both DL and OL to change under O, but still both are a major concern and not just because of depth. That was my biggest worry, but the guys in there got whipped. Arden Key does not look like he is remotely in shape. Cardio at all? Troublesome first SEC contest in so many ways.
Willie Allen was lost too. He is at a JC in Tyler and I'm willing to bet he will be kicking ass next season at a D1 school.
