The pronto was specifically about coverage. I'm pretty sure if we haven't kicked it deep yet that it isn't going to happen. The only other option is to teach them which one has the brown leather thing and get them to tackle THAT dude. Something they have consistently shown an inability to do. That CAN/SHOULD/BETTER get fixed quick, fast, and in a hurry!! Do you disagree?
Didn't Mingo used to be a LB?? Heck .. with his speed, it may be worth it to give him a try at LB, to give our LB unit a boost, and some size. Be good for blitzing as well. Other than that, the key to beating Bama is going to be GOOD TACKLING!!!!. I was watching OPiss last night, and their tackling is pathetic. TR was busing just about every run for 10 or so + yards, and was being touched by at least three guys in the process. If we limit TR to an average of 3-4 yrds per carry, as opposed to the 10.5 yrds per carry he pulled on OM last night, or his average of 7 yrds/car, then we stand a good chance of forcing McCarron to go to the air to achieve success. The more he goes to the air, the higher the prob our DBs pick it off ... and turnovers will be a death sentence for Bama ... because our offense has found it's identity, and will convert those to points. I think Bama has the bigger challenge in stopping our offense, than we do theirs. We've shown that we can run it down your throat, and we can complete the long balls... and we don't throw ints. We got ODB, RR, and RS, ... all major weapons in field. We got FORD .. which for gods sake .. get that kid back in the game!!! We got the "crusher" ... Ware .. and Blue. Our only weakness is a banged up OLine.
Nope. Not one bit. Not sure if Mingo has been on kick coverage, but with his size and speed, it leads me to believe he'd be quite useful. Miles uses ST to get a lot of young guys on the field sprinkled with a few veteran reserves. Perhaps their (any freshmen/soph) inexperience leads to some breakdowns in coverage??? I say that last part because I remember watching DeAngelo Peterson as a true freshman be on the kickoff team. It was the UGA game and my seats were in the south endzone for the game and I had a straight view down the center of the field. Kickoff after kickoff, Peterson got DESTROYED! Of course, he wasn't as "thick" as he is now and was still listed as a WR, but he was getting ROCKED! I remember telling my wife, "I'll be surprised if he WANTS to come back out next time!" ...and when he did, and got owned again, my wife's response was classic: "Awwww! Poor thing!" It was like we were trying to cover a kick with 9 men and a kicker. :hihi: ....Peterson has since filled out that frame of course, but my point was that Miles uses ST to get young guys on the field and some sort of experience. Now, I don't know the break-down of what players ARE on those coverage teams. It's kinda hard to see who's consistantly out there when you just get a zoomed-in camera view, but I know Blue, Tahj Jones and Brooks are coverage team regulars...but beyond them, I don't know who else has been out there.
That may be. Personally, I don't care who he has out there covering kicks as long as they play a really good game of tackle the man with the GD ball. To date they have really sucked at this.
