here's my big concern, it has been all year long, today i'm afraid just maid it glaringly obvious......I'm afraid a good running football team will gash us badly running between the tackles. Our linebackers are a vary obvious week point when it comes to run stop. I'm afraid a good running team like Alabama will be able to run between the tackles on us all night......i do not think many teams will be able to go east and west on us.....but between the tackles were weak, we have good front four but their a little young, struggling to get off blocks, and the linebackers are MIA for run support. Every other phase of the game for us is solid......I think bama's weakspot will be their punt and kick coverages.
Every week so far this year someone has stated a "reason for concern" and every week so far we've won...in convincing fashion. Look...CLM and his staff gameplan for their opponent on a week-to-week basis. Oregon was supposed to gash us and have our defense "gased". Didn't happen. WVU was gonna take it to us. Didn't happen. So on and so forth.... Each week, our defense has approached their current opponent with different schemes. Some involved us pinning our ears back and just blitzing like crazy. Others had our guys sit back and just not give up the big play--letting them have the underneath stuff. Poole is a good running back but just because UT put up the most rushing yards on us than any other team this season doesn't automatically mean they had this "lights out" day. UT still ONLY had 113 yards rushing. It's not like they put up 175.
Bama has run on everyone and they'll run on LSU too. The key is to limit the big plays and keep them out the end zone. There are many concerns when facing a team as good as Bama. The running game is one. just beat AU. Worry about Bama later.
This. I'm gonna spare some of the "worry warts": Bama WILL have success running the ball. Richardson is too good a back, and their line is too good a line, for him not to. We just have to make sure that Bama doesn't have success throwing the ball AND running the ball. But like Twisted said, the key is to "limit the big plays". We have to be solid tacklers.
There is a valid concern that we are rather light in the front 7. Alabama will be a handful for sure. But ultimately I agree with AB, we will game plan accordingly to gives ourselves the best possible chance to succeed.
My hope is that the power running game of Bama does not wear down the LSU defense; Bama's running game seems impressive. On the other hand the LSU offense has to play better with run blocking, and that is a daunting task against the Bama D.
