Don't know how much more specific I need to be than "I'm not implying LSU should cut sling" The jury is not out. We're assured of a winning season and Nobody gets fired for a winning season when you have averaged 11 wins and have a crystal football less than a year old. We're' going to have a top-3 recruting class, too, are you even aware? Yes, red, of course I'm aware. I'm aware who has committed to LSU, I'm aware who's coming back, I'm aware of the loads of talent. Talent alone doesn't mean anything. There is loads of talent on this team now. Nothing personal, but you are not being the least bit realistic. You never sat through 8 losing seasons in the 90's did you? Who in the world is going to come to coach LSU if an 80% winning record, consistent high recruiting, and a national championship gets you fired? The eight losing seasons is exactly the reason why I made this post in the first place. Most coaches don't get fired for having winning seasons (unless you're David Cutcliffe), and certainly no one gets fired a year after a championship. Once, again, I do not think he should be. But these are legitimate points being made. That's why I said the jury is still out until next season, assuming changes will be made after this season.
Meyer went 9-4 last year, with the damned Heisman trophy winning QB. Saban went 9-3 after a NC, winning by 4 against Troy St., by 1 against Oregon St. and by 3 over a 4-7 Ole Miss team at home. I'm not saying we don't have problems on defense (we do) but the margin between the winning and losing in the SEC is razor thin, no need to panic
There is no panic. I'm reasonably confident the players, coaches and fans are equally frustrated. And questioning the lack of performance this season doesn't make someone any less passionate about LSU than those that don't. The QB situation is unfortunate. If JJ turns out to be a lights out QB, so many people are going to question the coaching staff it won't even be funny. The coaches have to make their decision on who to play based on what they see in practice (Rohan Davey comes to mind here). Yeah, OK, Lee has made some horrendous throws, but that's to be expected. The number of dropped passes hasn't helped, either. The question is why has the offense not shown improvement throughout the season? Same for the defense.
With the exception of our QB play... our Offensive output hasn't really fallen off too much compared to last year. We were averaging 38 points a game last season as opposed to 30 points this season... it's our D that has fallen off immensely that's hurt us the most. We're giving up an average of 25 points this year as opposed to like 11 points last season. I think noone really worried too much about our offense this season because we all figured our D could help keep us close enough in those tight games that we didn't really need to a steller performance from our QBs to win... but our defense has struggled so badly we're giving up more than double the points we did last season. I think the D is our major weak link and needs addressed asap.
That could be a very good thing. Miles cannot coach 85 players, his job is to manage his assistants and team leaders. I think Les knows his job.Changes and replacements have to happen sometimes. Hell, Nick turned over 3 or 4 assistants every year. About half left because they couldn't stand Nick's temperament and the rest were dropped by Nick for not measuring up. There was never any dead weight on Nick's LSU staffs. Discontent, maybe, but every coach was either getting his job done to Nicks standards or he was history very quickly. I doubt this "Co-Coordinator" experiment was ever supposed to be for more than a year. They had to make it work quickly. LSU can attract a top DC. Les knows it and so do the DC's and position coaches. Because they don't know what they are doing. It's some coach's job to make sure that they know what they are doing. A position coach or a DC, I don't know who . . . but Les does.
Offensive leadership for next season? I think Jarrett Lee has got to be the most battle-tested QB of the season. With him being a freshman, and coming back for a SOPHOMORE year, I say he will be quite a leader!
For all we know maybe this is exactly what everyone in the Tiger camp has known and they've "secretly" been searching out a few possibilities for DC this whole season, just hoping to get through it well enough until they could get a short list finished.
Better cover your head bro... watch out for those flying objects. I got torn apart trying to defend Lee here.
You dont have to look far in the SEC to find a fumbling, bumbling horrible looking freshman QB who improved DRASTICALLY over his career and ended up a first round draft choice starting in the NFL today. Everyone remembers how much we scorned this guy around here. Dont rule Lee out. He can bounce back. Signed, Jason Campbell
I agree -- unless it worked well, which obviously isnt the case. I would imagine we had one in place last year until he started running his mouth and that put the staff in a tough situation.
