I think you must be confused about facts. Ford had more ypc than Ridley and so did Ware(due mostly to the bowl game).
I wouldn't be affraid to say we might have two 1000 yard rushers this coming year if QB situation improves and keeps teams honest. To have a pass threat would really open up the field not having to run against 8 in the box.
I'm excited to see who will emerge as the go-to running back this year. It's possible that Ford and Ware could have incredible years. That said, I don't understand how anyone can say that Ware is the clear-cut starter next season. He got a total of 175 yds of 24 atts. I don't think it's fair to base your assessment of Ware on the Aggie game. The majority of his yards came late in the 2nd half after their defense was extremely worn down. T-Bob Hebert said they were pushing them around and that their defense was absolutely defeated and exhausted in the 2nd half. Anyway, the strongest back would seem to be Ford, and I imagine him to be the number 1 back in 2011. That said, I think we're stacked in the running back department, and it's a beautiful problem to have.
I'm not saying Ford doesn't have it in him to be the starter at RB. He absolutely has the talent. What I'm saying is that he has an extra year in the system over Ware + Ware was a QB in highschool, and Ware still passed him up on the depth chart. IMO, that's because Ford hasn't learned the college game and the playbook fast enough. Sure, that could change - I just haven't seen anything that tells me it will happen in time for next season. Yes, the recency effect is skewing how people see Ware, but regardless he still had a good freshman season.
Ford made a lot of plays late in the year. I don't get why some are down on him. Last I checked, averaging 6 yards per carry is pretty damn good.
Perhaps. Ford just didn't have the type of season a lot of fans expected of him with him being a redshirt freshman... We'll see how it plays out. I hope the best for both of them.
Both will play and the best that day will carry the rock. Each will play each game to see who has the hot hand.
Yeah, but he was playing second fiddle to a 1,000yd rusher. He also had a screwball of an OC calling the games, so it's hard to feel confident that he was used properly. Gary always had a tendency to send an RB to the locker room after an impressive run.
I seam to recall there being issues with Ford picking up the blitz and otherwise working to absorb all aspects of the RB position. Ware in all likelyhood will take Ridley's spot and Ford will be next.
