Yeah, I said that a while ago. Clearly the recruiting star of this class was Jeff Grimes. Double down on that with who he replaced, and the phrase "it's a miracle" comes to mind. The ONLY guy he really "lost" was Tillery and of course Tillery held it against LSU that the Tigers wanted to move him to defense. Guess what....ND came to the same conclusion and he is playing defense when he starts practicing with ND. So, LSU didn't even lose an OL there either.
Not sure where this class rates, but it looks like a damn good one. I think bringing Steele and yaw yaw in so late hurt us on the defensive side. Can't wait to see what they do with a full year to recruit. Most needs were met minus the couple that have been discussed. Not sure which coach should get credit for bringing in the WR'S we get every season, but with this offense he deserves some special recognition! Looking forward to seeing these guys contribute. Welcome aboard newest Tigers.
I wouldn't say hurt us on the defensive side but yeah, it was too late to help. The only remote guy to my knowledge that LSU lost due to the coaching change was Kyle Phillips the DE from TN and to be honest, I don't think the coaching change even lost him. But remember, when Chavis left, LSU had 1 DE committed and 0 LBers...so 1 guy in the front 7. Steele and Orgeron SHOULD have started their jobs with 2 DEs committed and minimum 1 LBer. Throw all this where it belongs...Chavis and Haley simply didn't do the job. I agree with your WRers comment. Obviously you can understand why RBs love to come to LSU with like a 60% run offense. But to keep getting stud WRers is something. To be fair, LA is known for WRers and secondary guys and not known for LBers, so that explains a lot.
Yes the WR coach comes into play, but listening to Nick Brossette talk, he was saying today about Frank making in home visits along with Cam, how Cam had worked these kids. LSU is selling and the players are buying. If was known that O and Steele were behind the 8 ball, they recovered fast, to their credit.
QB: C- What I do like about McMillian is that he is a winner. I am sure he had some stiff competition in Texas. Style of QB and/or depth still lacking. RB: A+ Plus I expect some of these guys to line up at FB. WR/ATH: A if Martin somehow becomes eligible that is icing. Took the top WRs in the state. Jazz could be something special at his size too. TE: B 3 good ones. If we are going to run and we are we got some size to do what we are accustomed too. Plus you have a guy like Shipley who could be a OG. DL: C+ Get the + because of Key. Depth could of been addressed a little more. Only took 2. DT not addressed. Don't even have Valentine as a sure thing and I would expect some attrition this offseason on the line. LB: F Better get at least 4 next year. DB: A+ KT2 could be really special and the others are really good too. ST: A Even a really good walk on. Donte speed. Overall: B Wanted to get more guys on D, especially on the interior line and LB. We did a good job given the quality in this LA class and we got most of the top LA guys.
I seem to remember that Tillery held it against Studs for making fun of being smart and focusing on the NFL. This kid wants to be a MD and if I were in his shoes, I would pick ND or Stanford over LSU, not that our Med. School is bad, but the others names alone help you get better internships anywhere in the country. If we had been smart, we would have had Nacho Albergamo at all of his visits.
Dr Albergamo goes by Joe, he has dropped the Nacho And yes, there are a number of former players in the medical profession. The one I see every now and then is Dr Michael Blanchard, he and Brett Bech started out the same season as Walkons and both finished up at LSU. As for Brett, he's the Asst S&C Coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
This is funny. What you guys outside Texas may not know is that Shipley's Donuts is a huge chain here in the Houston area.
