Hornets get a conditional 2nd round pick in 2016. The Associated Press: Clippers get Butler from New Orleans
Everyone don't be so quick to spin this negatively. I have a feeling we are clearing up some space for another move.
It actually makes alot of since for the Hornets, they dont have the support to be paying a luxury tax ever year.
Byron Scott hates Butler anyway and now Thornton and JuJu have more chances to play. You all know I am overly critical of moves the Hornets make, because I'm not a fan like you all are, but I think it's a good move.
Not really, actually telling you what I know for a fact. NBA Attendance - National Basketball Association - ESPN Hornets= 19th out 30, that aint exactly setting the world on fire in the support area. Almost half of the NBA teams lost money this past season. They cant afford to pay a dollar for dollar luxury tax every season. You think I just made it up?
That stat is skewed. The New Orleans Arena can't even hold the amount of people per game as the TOP 12 atteandance teams (by avg) can. A more telling state of "support" in my opinion would be "percent sold." Percent sold is the percentage of tickets sold on avg based on total tickets available. The New Orleans Hornets are 8th in the NBA in this category ahead of many many large markets such as Chicago, New York, Miami, etc. "Despite national media reports that the small-market Hornets would struggle financially if they had to pay the luxury tax, Weber said the team, which also has the financial backing of minority owner Gary Chouest, is on solid footing." ""The luxury tax is something that all teams are concerned about, not small-market teams, not teams in New Orleans, not teams owned by George Shinn, but all teams are concerned about the luxury tax because it is punitive," Weber said. "I think the real question is if we have to go over the luxury tax to be competitive, will we? And the answer is yes. At the same time, you have to ask yourself the question if you don't have to, we won't. ... A lot of the speculation is that (getting under the luxury tax) is the priority, and it's not." lol thats alot of owner/gm speak, no one team is looking to go over the luxury tax and losing in the first round at the sametime. Im willing to bet they lost money last year. Also it doesnt matter that the arena is smaller, that just makes the revenue picture worst vs teams with bigger arenas at the top of the list every year. So they actually have to control cost more, knowing they have a revenue ceiling in ticket sales lower than other teams. Which translate into not paying the luxury tax every year.
