Ole Miss is road kill again! 1. LSU (LSU is # 1 until someone beats them ---- 12 wins & BCS repeat. Note: 31-0 was all I had to see! LSU could have scored 70 on ASU. 2. Florida/Georgia (tie)----------Tiebreaker makes SECCG 4. South Carolina/Auburn/Alabama---Tiebreaker (second tier also rans) 7. Tennessee/Arkansas/Miss State/Kentucky (bowl eligible) 11. Vanderbilt (bowlerama and White Horse Saloon in Nashville) 12. Ole Miss (toilet bowl, game with LSU is their bowl)
With MSU losing their opener, I'm not sure they'll be bowl eligible. One really has to beat the La Techs of their schedule to go bowlin'.
Our bye week was after the Alabama game, so now we actually play fewer games in a row, leading up to Alabama: 7, rather than 9.
Neither UGA or Florida impressed me as much as I thought they would. LSU had a solid first game, IMO, just as impressive as UF or UGA - just with a few more question marks. Alabama looked great against Clemson, but I'm not quite ready to call them a great team. Their lines will not look near as strong against SEC teams, and this is what really allowed them to dominate the game. However, their OC does seem to be a big improvement over Applewhite. Auburn still has a lot of kinks to work out in their offense, and they have injuries mounting. Hopefully they do not have this all resolved before we play them, because they look very beatable right now. South Carolina's defense looked good, and their offense started clicking with that other QB. They look like they'll be a good team, capable of knocking off a great team, but not one themselves. Tennessee... looking like the 4th best team in the East, but under Fulmer they have a way of looking terrible one week & great the next, so who knows what to expect. Ole Miss looks improved, probably going to be the 4th best team in the West. Arkansas - a whole lot of work for them to do, but they'll get better as the season goes on. Miss St was very dissapointing... They do not look like the team I saw last year. Kentucky played great, showing that last year was no fluke. Right now, I'd say: 1. Florida 2. Georgia 3. LSU 4. Alabama 5. South Carolina 6. Auburn 7. Kentucky 8. Ole Miss 9. Tennessee 10. Vanderbilt 11. Miss St 12. Arkansas
Ha ha ..... i was amused at that comment too. Most of these rankings are bunk, mine included, because they are based on perceptions created by the preseason polls. The fact is, most all of these teams did what they were supposed to do, so there really is very little you can objectively take away from their initial games. In the case of UF, UGA, LSU, and AU .... those teams had their backup players in the game as early as the 2nd quarter. UF and Auburn had some of their 3rd string players rotating-in during the 3rd quarter - probably the case for LSU and UGA too. And even when they had the 1's in the game, most were showing nothing more than their base schemes. You can probably evaluate Alabama and tennessee better because they both had legitimate opponents, but even then yoo'd be hard-pressed to make an accurate comparison to the other teams in the conference - not enough data points. IMHO, it's way too early to make objective judgements for a variety of reasons .... let alone comparative rankings. We'll all know a lot more in a couple of weeks.
I expected them to separate themselves sooner, and look sharper in the first half doing it. As cadillac pointed out, my impression that they didn't do "enough" is just based on the preseason expectations.
This guy hit it dead on... I usually jump at bets with my friends from USC, OSU etc this early... but this year I want to wait a few weeks and get more info before laying some money on anything... I want to see if our QB can play like Matt M and just not lose the game for us. I think our D and running game is A+++ ... we just need this guy to control the game, not be a JR....
I agree with one caveat - just like last year, the QB this year will have to make some plays in tight spots. It's a tough conference and protecting the football will not be enough. It'll be a huge help. But it won't be enough to win the SEC.
