I don't get it. The team we played could beat ULM easily but everyone seems to think that Auburns performance against ULM warrants them being considered a better team than us. Why?

I dont think anyone really knows. For example I rated the teams like this:

However, this time I added +'s and -'s to each team to track how they should do throughout the year (+ = likely to improve, - = chance to fall). Auburn's defense is one of the best in the country and they rushed the ball well. But the passing game is still a question mark but I do not think you can penalize them after one game...thus them holding steady in my ranking. Obviously, as noted, there are each teams have some question marks and once we enter SEC play more objective rankings will surface.

I can't speak for others, but I thought Auburn looked very, very good last year and they return a lot of that talent. If RP had returned, I'd have LSU winning the west. With the two QBs we have (who I like, but am not completely confident in) I give Auburn the benefit of the doubt for now.

I like being the slight underdog anyway.

Let's face it - SEC teams dominate the top 10. It's all good.

Can you name Auburn's QB's..without google? I couldn't before last week. They have a new D coordinator, a new O cooridantor, and actually lost a lot of talent. I don't know. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

    My reasoning:

Preseason, I'd have had the West

    1. Auburn
    2. LSU
    3. Bama

I think LSU and Auburn's play was a wash

and I think Bama jumped all three.

it's all real close. Next week LSU could probably be #1 again. I just think it's one thing to get C- QB play against App State. Another thing to do it against Auburn.

I think we'll be able to tell whether Alabama is for real of not the next two weeks. It's not the "big games" that we lay eggs in but the "should wins". If we can bury Tulane and Western whom ever we play without a hick up then I'd say Bama may be legit.

But let me tell you right now. If we struggle with these games that is a tell tell sign that Bama is probably in the same boat as last year. To me the Tulane game is bigger than the Clemson game. Them dang LA teams give us fits. :po:

All I know is that I wish the SEC would tell Tennessee and Arkansas that they can not take early season trips to the west coast EVER again. The PAC 10 patrol hangs their hats on those games.

They don't take into effect the difference between beating Tennessee or Arkansas once at home...as opposed to doing that...then beating Florida...then beating Georgia...then beating LSU on the road...then beating Auburn on the road...you see where I am going with this???

SEC RANKS by the Locsta -

    1) Florida - God I hated doing that, but they look SOLID
    2) LSU - not a homer pick either...just great D and running game
    3) Auburn - pretty stout Defensive Unit..but it was ULM warsparrows
    4) Georgia - always stumble...probably always will
    5) Alabama - Clemson is OVER RATED..but JPW and D looked better
    6) South Carolina - one word - Spurrier
    7) Miss State - I think they will do better. They did last year.
    8) Ole Miss - because everyone else just sucks more
    9) Kentucky - see above
    10) Tennessee - could be 1 - 4 after 5 games easily. Fulmer sucks eggs
    11) Arkansas - looked horrible
    12) Vandy - it's Vandy people....Vandy.

I second this list. Based on quality of opponent, Bama tops LSU at this stage. Next week, it may not be the same. But, Bama dominated a top 10 team. Time will tell is Clem is overrated or not. As Salty said, swap Auburn and LSU. LSU looked at least as good as Auburn.

SHOUTOUT to Bamabuzzard for being particularly reasonable and grounded while basking in the glory of domination over a top 10 foe! I remember in 2000 when we had a hard time believing our success after the decade of the 90's. It's kinda like SPRINGTIME, new birth.

You hit it right on. I'm feeling like we're just gonna tank like we did last year. I'm enjoying the win because it was about as flawless of game as I've seen Bama play in a long long time. But with how our lucks been running I'm waiting on the short lived bottom to fall out. That sucks to have that feeling. :nope:
