Ok, I'll admit this is my own little obsession, but it's time to bring this up again, if Coach Trent Johnson is listening. Why? First, it appears that John Treloar is gone, going to be the head coach of an expansion team in the D-League, in the NBADL. That leaves another assistant coaching spot open... and Randy Livingston did send Trent a resume. http://www.idahopress.com/?id=7626 Little did I know (or remember), Randy Livingston also served (or was slated to serve) as a summer coach for John Brady. I thought maybe he was called up then, but this is what USA today reported back in 2004. USATODAY.com - Roundup: Judge stops Arkansas foundation countersuit So, Randy has that experience and interest in being at LSU again. He's one of New Orleans' most storied high school players and perhaps one of the last "great" N.O. signings at LSU in a while. A great PG with a great IQ for the game, and no doubt would be an incredible recruiter. Plus, with LSU mining the state for guys like Eddie Ludwig, Langston Galloway, and a few other big names in '10, imagine a guy like Randy Livingston, who has contacts at like 10 NBA teams, walking in the door. :geauxtige LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
it sure would be nice if we could recruit a guard, rather than playing with 5 small forwards in the starting line up
Just echoing what Deek said, Chris Bass! I think a lot of people who dont keep up with much basketball recruiting will be surprised with Bass next year, and I agree, Livingston on the staff would be pretty awesome
Thanks for the update, Tger. I think a lot of LSU fans would love to see Livingston back in BR as a Tiger of the coaching stripe, and I frequently wonder about that possibility and what he's up to. Hope CTJ finds a spot for him to start his coaching career. Did you run across anything indicating whether RL completed his degree as the 2004 article mentioned him intending to do?
Ben Voogd, Tack Minor... its not always just signing the guard that guarantees the W's. You have to sign the right ones. Time will tell, but I hope this Bass dude is more a DJ Augustin than a Voogd.
right, I knew of bass, and wasn't really talking about the future, just making a comment on how lousy our guard play has been for the past ten or 15 years
I think it's safe to say he's not done. According to most recent reports, Randy was planning to finish his bachelor's online through University of Phoenix... http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/livingston_080425.html I imagine he's close. The question is if this really is a "requirement" can he serve as some sort of student coach or something while he's finishing his credits. Seems like for a guy like this, an alum, from N.O. and played a long career in professional circles, you try to make it happen. I know Trent has made it a message of his to reach out to alumni... with a spot open, who are some other choices? Ricky Blanton is the next guy that comes to mind.
