I think that's the true reason. I think if you're a QB of minimal stature AND the word is that there's a good chance you won't qualify, then it should come as no surprise that LSU isn't formally recruiting him.
Hmm didn't know grades were such a big issue with him. That's understandable then. I remember last year a lot of people wanted Noel Devine but we didn't offer because of the grades issue. Although he ended up qualifying at West Va. and played for them. I still like Mackey, I hope things work out for him and he does well wherever he goes. Guess it won't be at LSU however. Also, a bit off topic, but is anyone really impressed with DC Jefferson? He is huge and I liked him for the size alone when I first saw his stats, but he doesn't seem to have that super rocket arm like JaMarcus did. In fact he has a pretty average arm. I'd probably have been happy with just taking Jordan Jefferson and Darron Thomas and using DC Jefferson's scholarship on a LB instead. His video just didn't impress me. Hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be a great player for us, but I have my doubts.
Gee whiz, man! Few people DO!!!! I mean, JR was ONLY tabbed by seemingly every NFL guru as having the "strongest arm we've ever seen" for a reason.
Well that came out wrong from me. I wasn't saying I expected him to have a JaMarcus type arm, just that a guy that big you expect at least a stronger than average arm and I just didn't see it in the videos. Again, I said I hope he turns out great but the videos haven't been impressive to me so far, and that's all I can really judge him by.
No worries! I figured it was a "slip of the tongue". :thumb: DC, like that article another poster pointed out, is a raw talent with tramendous upside. You were right about his arm strength though. I mean, it's not bad--certainly a ledgit I-A arm--but not what you would expect from a player 6-foot-6 and 230 lbs. ...but he'll get better. Right now, his clips remind me alot of Byron Leftwich--big-bodied QB that can make all the throws, but seems to have a slow release. Good thing is that mechanics and release time can be coached and improved. And while our other young QB's like Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson might be ahead of DC Jefferson from a "more college ready" standpoint, I think you'll find that by their redshirt Jr. or Sr. season, DC's talents will have grown (obviously)--and he could very well end up a QB that when you look back, you say, "WOW! He's come a LONG way!" and it'll be great.
I really wish Mackey could've came to LSU which most ppl know he was willing to play other positions b/c this is his dream school. However I hope he goes to Auburn over Arkansas b/c he will have a great chance to play QB there as a result of their lack of depth at that position(only Kodi Burns w/exp.). Also if he moves to CB he'll have a chance to get drafted if Muschamp stays there.
Mackey wont make the grades. he's barely passing at Bastrop. Bastrop coaches dont check grades until after the first semester. When football season is over. trust me on this one.
Wait a sec...you WANT to see this guy go to two of our BIGGEST rivals?!?!?! You should be slapped!!! ....I'm joking of course...ugh...well--wait! No! No I'm NOT joking!!!! I don't want to see this kid go to Auburn or Arkansas! I want to see him succeed as a Louisiana product, but let him do that at a Big XII or ACC school thank you very much!
everyone please listen. he wont matter b/c he cant make the grades. not even close to qualifying!!!!!!!
