I recently read, maybe here, that Southern University has the lowest graduation rate in the universe. Students, not athletes, something like 4.7%.
That would be Southern University at New Orleans. The main campus of Southern in Baton Rouge is at 21.2%. While that isn't a very good number, it is over four times better than its satellite campus.
Gay and his wife both went to LSU for undergrad. they went to Southern for LAW SCHOOL. Louisiana only has two state law schools: LSU and Southern (both have reasonable tuitions). the only other two law schools in the state are Loyola and Tulane (which are ridiculously expensive). Plenty of LSU students that didn't get into LSU Law School (which is hard to get into, like a 14% acceptance rate), go to Southern LAW SCHOOL (including friends of mine who are all highly successful attorneys now). for the last fall Louisiana Bar exam, Southern had a 46.8% bar passage rate. the ones don't pass on the 1st attempt get to keep taking the bar exam again until they do
Grambling makes Southern look like Harvard. Average ACT of 14 (lower than their NCAA scholarship athletes!) and a 7% graduation rate. Only a mile or two from Louisiana Tech, Grambling really should be closed to save the state money instead of reducing funds to schools that are getting the job done.
We have the same situation, to an extreme in North Carolina. We have some great colleges, as you know, and we have in almost every city with a great one, a dog that dont hunt. Terrible, and like you say, they are taking money from all.
