As of today, the rumors are the Red Sox will have to choose between signing LSU star Anthony Ranaudo and Workman. Ranaudo, who is coming off a serious injury, pitched in Cape Cod this summer. And he dominated. He and his agent, Scott Boras, are supposedly asking for $3 million. That could cut into money the Red Sox have available for Workman. I think you might be right. CPM might have had what he thought might be a viable back up plan, unfortunately it appears that unless he had 6 backup plans he was not prepared enough.
