Given this past season, higher than I expected. I am happy for him. Good luck AR, maybe you can make the Sox get back to where they were a few yrs ago.:geaux: :thumb:
He will get paid based on his draft position. Judging by the spot he was picked, the Sox think this season was just a blip on the radar. Being the 39th overall pick he is about to get paid big time. Good luck to him, glad we had him while we did.
Tore it up in the Cape Cod Leauge and has left his team. Reported to be mullng a return to LSU for his senior season (which I doubt very seriously will happen) while continuing to negotiate with the Bosox. I simply don't see the Red Sox letting him slip away, especially given how he pitched in the Cape Cod Leauge: "Selected by the Red Sox with the 39th overall pick in the June draft, Ranaudo has decided to leave the Cape League and shut down for the remainder of the summer to decide whether or not to sign with Boston or return for his senior year at Louisiana State University. ... In five starts with the Brewster Whitecaps, Ranaudo went 3-0, did not allow an earned run — the only Cape League pitcher with at least 24 innings pitched to do so — and allowed just 10 hits and eight walks while striking out 31 batters. Brewster manager Tom Myers said radar gun readings had Ranaudo's fastball at a consistent 93 mph, and occasionally at 95. Cape League: Brewster ace Ranaudo leaves | CapeCodOnline.com
Apparently so, from the same article dated today: "If Anthony's not treated and viewed as one of the top 10 picks in the draft by the Boston Red Sox, in terms of their financial commitment, then Anthony wants to come back to LSU and prove that he can be that guy," LSU associate head coach David Grewe told the Cape Cod Times earlier this summer. "If I am the Boston Red Sox, if I am the person in charge, I value Anthony Ranaudo and I treat Anthony Ranaudo as if he's going to be a No. 1, 2 or 3 starter for me in the big leagues," Grewe added. Ranaudo, who now has four weeks to make a decision about his future, leaves behind a Brewster pitching staff that has a league-best 1.99 ERA and a team that has worked to an Eastern Division-leading 21-9 record. EDIT: Here is another article from yesterday reporting the very same thing: Drafted by the Red Sox with the 39th overall pick, Ranaudo must now decide whether to sign with the Red Sox or return to LSU for his senior season. http://www.nesn.com/2010/07/report-...-ranaudo-done-playing-in-cape-cod-league.html His agent is Scott Boras, thus I'm sure this will be used as leverage. Hope Anthony gets a huge payday but selfishly would love to have him back next year especially now that two of the pitchers we were counting on are having Tommy John surgery.
Man talk about torn. I would love AR to come back, but i would also love to see him playing for the Sox. I just don't see how it's possible for a guy who has an agent, and who has probably already accepted money, to come back and play college baseball.
