But in fact, I agree. The first amendment is a broad right and subject to interpretation to preserve the best interests of the USA. Muslims or anybody else whose speech indicates a proclivity to terrorism should be subject to investigations and legal restrictions. The second amendment is also broad and also subject to interpretation to preserve the best interests of the United States. Better background checks is one of them, even if it involves a reasonable wait period.

While I understand where you are coming from, this is exactly what you have previously opposed as government overreach. Doctors are already required to report anyone they suspect is dangerous, but millions of citizens with minor emotional issues or depression are not dangerous. Most spouses and family members are not qualified to make a call and many have personal agendas that could swamp the legal system with false reports. And answer me this. What good would this do if no time is permitted to allow officials to vet and disapprove gun purchases to such people? Does the Constitution protect you from inconvenience? Why, no.

No American's rights can be restricted due to the actions of others. This is fundamental to our Constitution. But all American's rights can be restricted in the best interests of the nation. This happens quite frequently. Witness the TSA, overseas travel restrictions, wartime rationing, and tons of laws that prevent the avarice of one citizen from victimizing another.

No. But gun laws can be amended to reduce terrorism and domestic crime, or to increase public safety in the best interests of the nation.
