Can someone tell me the player who made the tackles on the last two Special Teams plays (The Kickoff coverage and the Punt coverage)? 4th Quarter......Hes gonna be the next Great Safety at LSU. I liked the play of Josh D. Saturday night, had a good game. I also like the play of a couple of the back-ups. OLmen Turner, Alexander, Domingue, Davenport and Porter. The TE Dillon Gordon look good at times. We have played 70 players this year, with 12 being True Freshmen, this is a great time to get them into games. Enjoy Brad Wing folks, next year, he'll be in the Pros.
Sports Illustrated: LSU's support system comes from a seemingly endless supply of young talent. Saturday, the Tigers played 19 freshmen or redshirt freshmen and 17 sophomores. The defensive line, which accounted for three sacks and six hurries, constantly rotates in fresh players. "I think we're a little deeper than we were last year," said defensive end Barkevious Mingo. "We're six or seven deep at end." That depth comes from a willingness to toss young players into the pool and with the hope they can swim. "We play a lot of people," defensive coordinator John Chavis said. "We don't recruit guys to redshirt. ... If you've recruited the right kind of people, they're not going to be here for four years anyway." ... the Tigers who start can't afford to regard the rest of their schedule lightly. If they do, they'll get passed by the youngsters of similar ability desperate for one more snap than last week. That constant uneasiness can't help but breed even more hardnosed kickass football intensity.
This is encouraging on several fronts. First, it's great to hear from Barkevious that we have more depth than last year. Also, it's great to that the DE positions don't work like, say, the quarterback position has worked for the last few years, where even if you don't have the hottest guy in, you just keep him in anyway. Instead, as your quote says, Chavis plays a lot of people, and gets his younger guys in on a regular basis. We're gonna rely on that experienced depth later in the year, and we'll be thankful for it. Can't help but think it helps send a message to recruits, too... "Hey 5-star DLINE recruit, there's no better place to shine than at LSU. Yeah, we got depth. So what? You're going to be surrounded by the best, and you'll train side by side with future NFL stars. And better than that, you'll play right next to them, as a freshman if you work hard enough, in the biggest games on the biggest stage, every year."
Don't think so Dog. Talking with a Draft guy tonight, a number of teams are keeping an eye on Wing. Remember Ray Guy was the 23rd. player taken in the 1st round of 1973 NFL Draft. Wing like Brockers last year, is able to be drafted after his Soph. year.
I thought his punt in the 1st quarter of UDub was amazing. At that point, it changed the game. Clearly, it was just a matter of time, but we didn't start out great with the fumble, and drops. After Wing's punt, we took off as a team.
