Actually I live in Lubbock, I have a bit of an unfair advantage.:) Here is another thing about TTU, they have the second youngest roster in the NCCA this year, based on people in each grade classification. I think Delaware is the youngest.

Did anyone watch the coverage of Fresno St. vs. Hawaii?

One commentator said that Hawaii WRs do not run any planned routes. Instead WRs come up with their own routes to run at the line of scrimmage, and Colt Brennan just figures them out as he sees them. Is this right?

I didn't watch the game, but I highly doubt this. It's probably something like what Crowton uses here, which allows receivers to make reads & change their routes. But that is not the same as going out there & running around.

Hell, even in flag football we have routes. I can't believe that a D1 college wouldn't...

The question was about the offense I know, but it won't matter what Mike Leach does with his "system" at Texas Tech until he is able to assemble a defense that worries anybody. Or probably more important, until he learns he can't outscore everybody. That is his shortcoming as a coach.

Leach will always run an offense that will win him some games against inferior teams, and occasionally, he'll win a big one against a better team. But until he figures out that he's gotta have a defense, he'll be a talk-show phenom, a gimmick, a 4-5 loss guy most years.

BTW...I really like the guy. His comments, pre and post game, are among the best of the best. Never know what the guy's gonna say, even if it costs him the big bucks (as it did today). And, he's got the aggys number, bless his heart.

Im truly of the belief its a mindset as much as it is athletes. if you have a high-power offense albeit in the SEC or wac or pac-10 that becomes your identity.

teams like tx tech, houston and even the spurrier teams rolled up 600-700 yards seemingly weekly yet still couldnt hang on.

Spurrier had bigtime athletes on both sides of the ball but of course never won a NC til little robby stoops stepped in as DC.

If you have a team with an offense like Miss St the defense knows if it allows more than a fg they likely lose (unless playing bama). the opposite seems to be in play for these wide open teams where the defenses seem to play much softer regardless the players/athletes.

this is always the case in june jones' offenses. not completely dissimilar to crowton's. not the miles' crowton version, mind you.

for the record, I still like colt brennan to be successful in the NFL although I sometimes question his arm strength the more i see him.

I've seen crabtree play quite a bit but never realized how big the kid is:
    6'3 222 as a freshman? yikes.

2007 stats with OU left i believe--

    113 receptions/1707 yards/155.2 yards per game/15.1 average/20 tds
