Question - would it have been smarter for Florida to interfere on that last touchdown?

The rule is the ball is placed on the one.

Looking back they absolutely should have taken a penalty. I think Les goes for it anyway.

I also think they would have ran a running play and maybe Meyer figured he'd take his chances with forcing LSU to throw for a TD rather than rush for one(which worked twice with JJ in this game before).

So if we threw the ball from the one yard line, we would get pushed back to the 2?

    Not buying that at all.

There has to be a caveat that says it's half the distance to the goal or the 2 yard line, whichever is closer.

I do believe the ball would have been placed from the 3 to the 1 1/2 yard line.

no fool, it says the penalty wont move it past the 2 if its outside. if you are already within the 2, it doesnt apply.

we were on the 3 so it goes to the 2. you dont have to buy anything.

    thank you cuz I'm broke

Crazy to think you don't get the ball moved half the distance to the goal.

So Florida's stupid and Urban Meyer is a buffoon.

The rules should be changed, in my opinion, so that any defensive penalties committed in the last 30 seconds (or something along those lines) would cause the game clock to be reset to the time on the clock when the play started. That will take away the incentive a team in Florida's position to commit a penalty on purpose with the intent of simply burning off time off the game clock.

Using 20/20 hindsight of course an intentional PI is the right choice, how can anyone possible believe otherwise since it proved to be a game winning play? How is this even debatable?

In do-over universe, from Florida's perspective of course you want LSU to have to run another play to win it. One more chance for our offense to screw something up or their defense to come up with a big play. Possibility that commits a LSU penalty on the same play creating offsetting penalties and the time has expired. Best case scenario is a turnover and Florida wins. Not an outlandish possibility. Worst case scenario already happened, an LSU TD pass and a loss. More than likely if the PI had been committed, LSU has a first and goal from the 2 with only a few seconds remaining. Possibly a FG attempt and overtime at home. I'm sure they like their chances with that. Possibly an incomplete pass or stuff the run and escape with the victory.

If that play were replayed their DB is told to tackle him coming off of the line of scrimmage.

I think they tried the first time, and I think they realized the refs weren't having any of it.. It was do or die for them or us. Sounds good anyway. I think they wanted to interfere the second time but the mismatch was so great it didn't matter. Toliver was like a foot taller than that guy.. lol
