I have a question on when a player should commit. Do you think that players that wait too long to commit ever get left out at the school they really want to attend? This is just a what if but lets say we get Cox and Teague has committed and for whatever reason there isnt a spot left at DB and Miami and USC are the same for Eugene. Does he get let out or do you think people find a way to clear a schol. Doesnt it make sense if you see the team you want starting to sign others at your position that you have a little more pressure to make a decision. This is the dice game with recruiting for both sides. I just wonder how many kids get left out or if it happens at all.
If said player is a 1-3-star recruit, the chances of him getting "left out" are pretty high if he beats around the bush. However, for those 4 and 5-star guys, it's pretty safe that most schools will find a spot...somehow, someway.
I prefer to see players commit early. It starts the ripple effect (see florida) and many other players commit due to schollies available or future talent. That is why Tebow was so huge for Florida. He has great potential and starter the ripple effect. I do like for players to wait and take their visits early until they commit though. That way you do not have the Bani Gbadyu's of the world switching around.
Every once in awhile, you get a rational-minded, high-ranking recruit that will commit early, bypassing on the rest of the "recruiting game", because they realize that it's not impossible of a scenerio that they could be left out (see Richard Dickson).
I would milk it to the end as long as possible. This is the last time most of these kids are going to be treated like royalty for a while (and some, never again.)
If I were a recruit, I would visit 4 schools that I am considering, and Hawaii.. cuz its friggin Hawaii..
I would definitely take all of my visits. Being treated like royalty by a couple programs sure would be nice... Most of these kids aren't die-hard fans of any one particular school, and even when they are there are so many other variables they have to consider. I don't blame them for not being able to make their mind up right away. I switched my verbal commitment from University of Texas to LSU, except nobody cared because I don't play football. :thumb:
I agree that coaches will find a way to make room for the big name athletes. I have heard of some situations of coaches not letting a lesser player verbally commit and actually asking him to take his other visits so that they can have some more time with the bigger name player. Not sure how often this happens. Most of it depends on how a player feels about a certain school. Our QB commit, Neil Caudle, has been an Auburn fan, knew he wanted to go to Auburn, and committed early in the year. He is a big recruit, so we obviously would have kept room for him, but he just didn't feel the need to drag it on any longer. I guess some guys don't feel the need to be treated like stars.
