I have a question for people like you. Did Steve Spurrier forget how to coach when he left Florida? Why is South Carolina not performing as well as his teams at Fla. did? Les Miles didnt forget how to coach but he did have some key personnel leave last year and you dont automatically have them on next years team. One thing that happenned is he put all his eggs into the Perilloux basket and that dismissal left him exposed. I cant explain why we didnt recruit qb's hard for a few years but it is backfiring right now. That one decision leads to most of the problems on the rest of our team. It is being fixed as we have 2 young qb's getting experience. We have a 5 star coming in next year and also a 3 star that is having a great year. LB is also being addressed and i would be willing to bet that DC is addressed after the season is over. Dont panic guys and dont turn on this team. Try to support our team and understand we have some issues to address. Which are being addressed. And if i am a linebacker out there and i want to play pretty quick i am looking at LSU really hard. Sometimes problems turn into strengths when you have playing time to offer.
This board will meltdown if we lose Randle, even if we finish in the top 2 for recruiting. And it will be repeated every time he makes a catch for bama. What recruiting info/internet has done to fanbases is bizarre to say the least.
And what winning 2 NC in 5 year period has done to expectations? It really is quite funny to watch if you can step back and have a sense of humor. Expectations> Common Sense = Meltdown>loss
Laurinaitis: *** Channing Crowder: **** AJ Hawk: *** Rivals didn't even assign a rating for Hawk. He was rated #30 for OLB's that year. >>Link
So, does that show that our LB coaching sucks or that the other big schools are just lucky at getting future NFL LBs?
Not sure. Personally, I think that LBers are overrated. I'll take a dominant D-Line and a top notch secondary every. single. time. You just need guys who are solid tacklers. They don't need to be superstars if you have safeties like LSU has. The Cowboys had one of the best defenses in the NFL for more than a few years and won a couple Superbowls with mediocre LBers. LSU win their first BCS CG with mediocre LBers. Personally, I feel that the LBers have performed well, certainly above the expectations I had for them going into the season. I don't know why everyone is complaining. Our D-Line is getting blown off the ball and blockers are getting to the second level; A guard blocking a LBer isn't a challenge at all.
Alexander plays for the Patriots. I think Turner was pretty solid, and even made it to Dolphins camp. Now, Vaughn and Kuale were pretty mediocre.
Alexander plays reserve special teams when he's not busy being cut and signed to the practice squad. If that's not the very definition of mediocre, I don't know what is. Lionel Turner (like Alexander, Kuale, Vaughn, et al) was too slow for the NFL and had no instincts to speak of. They all had a good deal of heart and the pedigree that comes with all athletes who play for a championship caliber program which is why some NFL teams take a flyer on these guys. I thought that maybe Vaughn might find a spot on a team running a 3-4 defense with very little depth. The rest were probably lucky they even spent time in a camp. I will always love these guys for being Tigers, but I don't drink nearly that much kool-aid...
Yeah Brady and Faulk were the only 2 NFL caliber LBs in the past 10 years. And Faulk should have stayed his senior year to better prepare himself, but we already rehashed that one too many times on TF. We don't grow LBs in Louisiana for whatever reasons.
