When I was in the band, I used to notice that our field was very convex relative to others. That is, the curvature from sideline to sideline was more severe than in other stadiums I visited. (Although, if I remember correctly, MSU had a very convex field.)

Does anyone have any theory on what difference that makes during a game?

    Incidentally, :911:

Most all grass fields have a "crown". Its for water runoff and makes turf maintenance easier. Other then having a feeling of running slightly down hill I dont think it makes any difference.

I'm afraid that with all the rain we're supposed to get this weekend, that the field will be tore up for the whole season.

Our field has been pretty bad for the last few seasons.

Tiger Stadium has traditionally had a high crown, although they may have reduced it in recent years with the new underground drainage system.

The main issue with high crowns for coaches is that with so many schools now playing on low crown artificial turf or flat and level indoor stadiums, quarterbacks have to adjust for the crown when throwing sideline routes. Some rival QBs get used to a flat field and the Tiger Stadium crown causes them to overthrow. Likewise some LSU QBs throw low on a flat turf field. Having the indoor facility helps get the quarterbacks used to both surfaces.

I think it's time for AstroTurf. Every year it seems like Tiger Stadium's field ends up looking like a cow pasture. The new stuff is not nearly as hard on knees like the old stuff from the 70's, and it looks great throughout the season.

I'm sure the purists will object, but I would like to see it in T.S.:tigereye:

    Was about to object.

Then I read that. For being the new guy, you're pretty good at this. :hihi:

Well for me it's kinda annoying for one of the top programs in the nation, with the best facilities available anywhere, to play on a crappy looking field.

Besides I am tired of the Aggie and Longhorn fans around me talking about how their fields look sooooo good!

The only time I have ever seen it look good is when Trindon burned Ole Piss for a return TD at their place. As he was running into the endzone, he did some slide steps with his feet. It kicked up some of the black pellets. It was as if his feet were smoking. It was beautiful. :bncry:

he did the same when he ran that kickoff against r-kansas. it looks like he uses his toes as landing gear then the pellets fly.
