I am a coonass, and the term by itself is not offensive. We're kinda proud of it. There is a certain industriousness and joy in life, embodied in our food and our music that frankly, others don't match. Ever hear anyone visit New Orleans and not like it? Not really, especially the food and the music.

What was offensive was the context. Saban goes to Bama. Coonass says it makes him feel like Saban is doing his wife. That's the joke. Saban laughs, finds it funny, tells others the joke. Here's the problem. The cajun making the original statement WASN'T JOKING, if the story is true. He was pained by the thought of his former coach going to a rival, and he explained it in a very basic way, if the story is true. And Saban seemed to find his pain amusing. And that is what is insulting. Did the cajun take Saban's move too seriously? By "modern" standards, probably. But to believe that's the way it should be, that the cajun should not takes Saban's move too seriously, is to fail to understand the passion the people of La. feel for LSU football. Saban, in this example, seems to harbor a deep, never stated before, disdain for the cajun people and their feelings for the LSU program, and a smallness of himself in his ability to enjoy the pain of others. It shows what a true jerk he can be. But the term coonass can be used positively or negatively, and Saban shows his negativity to the people of La. in that case. The JERK.

I've made that very point to Terry and other Saban apologists, it's the fact that he finds it funny that LSU fans were hurt by him going to a rival division member. The fact that Saban finds it funny just shows he's an ass.

Like I said, it's his actions after he went to bama that soured me.

I realize that. And, by this next comment I'm not singling out anyone here in this thread.

Some of the reactions with the hire are funny. I read some of the comments on TOS and find the comments "out there." Much like some of the things I see Bama fans posting I find embarrassing, if I were an LSU fan I would find some of the comments directed towards CNS embarrassing.

I can understand, clearly, how some of the things that have happened over the last year have "soured you" on Saban. I can see the other side of the coin and how some of the actions of other fans are amusing to him as well.

I do wish, in some manner of speaking, the hatchet could be buried. But, in the realm of things, it does make another story line in the football season that is fun to watch and be a part of....don't you agree?

True football fans realize that he can accomplish some great things with our program. Football fans of the "sidewalk variety" realize that as well but their realization comes out on more of a venomous tone. I see it at other programs as well.

It's no big deal in my book...not trying to fulfill some apologist role. It certainly makes it entertaining and that's the main reason I follow the sport as it is...it's entertainment.

I'm over it. He's just another coach as now. You're either a Tiger, or you're Tiger Bait.

OK, I have to admit it. I do hold a slight grudge against Saban. Thanks to him being where he is now, I can no longer display the trophy from our '03 title, even though it was the first one of my lifetime. I refuse to have a poster of the Alabama coach hanging in my son's room. If he had gone to any other school, in any other conference, that poster may still be on the wall. But since he is at a rival school, it is no longer up. Nothing against Saban personally, I would remove pics of my grandmother if she became Head Coach of a conference foe.

Guy I worked with had the poster on his wall. After Saban went to bama, had another poster made up with mike the tiger's head superimposed in the picture.

    Came out pretty cool.

That guy should get a life. I think it is hilarious he is so depressed about a football coach especially compared to his family. And it is even funnier he went and told Saban that.

Of course Im an a hole.

I think the story was he told someone who was part of TAF, who relayed it to Saban. Anyway, as big a fan as I am, I wouldn't compare it to my wife cheating on me. So, I'd have to agree with Tigerbait on this one.
