Im sure 5 is an exaggeration but its the number that seemingly gets thrown around in regards to JJ. Im sure Crowtons playbook is thicker than many COLLEGE teams, nut just Destrehan. He really is inovative and you can see it by what he was running last year and some of the plays he let Lee run.
I have to admit.. I loved the first playcall of the game. I think with JJs athleticism.. we should see alot more of those types of plays.
As far can a freshman or red-shirt freshman doing well, just this year see Griffin at Baylor, Pryor at OSU, and Wilson at NC State. It can happen. It requires a exceptional athlete and a very good DC for it to work. Crowton's offense is very complex and requires a QB and wide receivers with very good football IQ's and much studying to be successful. He has a record of making it hard on young QB's and WR's. What you are seeing is Crowton and Miles being spoiled by Matt Flynn last year. See Crowton's comments on the OSU game. Flynn studied the defense, make the checks at the line, changed his call to make the OSU defense give up their blitz package so he could make the right call. That happened all year. Very difficult for a Lee or Jefferson to make that happen. Even Perriloser was limited to about 10 plays in the SEC Championship game last year... Crowton seems to not do well with youth. I hope that of the 5 scholly QB's we will have in spring, someone catches on fast... or we will see more of the same..
Probably right Yep, or for whatever reason the guy just isnt there yet, he may be fine later, time will tell. this is so far off it isnt funny. the play calling got WAY conservative in the 2nd half. Youd have to be blind to NOT see that....ie no quick crossing routes over the middle. some of the same run option plays but no pass option to mix it up. I saw 1st down run up middle scott 1yard, 2nd down run up middle scott no gain 3rd down JJ pass play 12 yards, turn the ball over on downs. No more first down passes, with a run option, we got conservative. JJ is a helluva lot better as ANY type of QB than Lee. Freshman, red shirt blue shirt etc. He is a dual threat and has the presence of mind to throw the ball away, pump fake, go to his second reciever, etc. HE ACTUALLY KNOWS MORE FOOTBALL THAN LEE. SCRAP THE PLAY BOOK. He was late on a pitch, he did over throw some recievers and throw to hard a few times ( gun ) but for the most part that is just a result of NO PLAY TIME. HAD JJ been playing since TOO LAME or sooner, I wouldnt be afraid to say we might only have two losses at this juncture. TALENT can make a WORLD of difference and dont EVER doubt that. All he needs is play time ( although JJ cant make up for a sad defense ) True and none that I am aware of. I wouldnt say it prospered this year, next year wil be the kicker. if we turn the corner we can all look back on this and chuckle. I dont see any reason why we shouldnt. I am more optimistic that we WILL than we wont. for this reason and you may call me dumb BUT there is just TOO much money on the line not to. the fan base and merchandise, revenues off of winning teams like LSU is HUGE. this isnt Ole MISS or Vandy. ( small school 2 T shirt stands, happy to win 6-7 games a year. ) Hell you should see the Ole Miss fans in North Miss right now, you'd think they won the NC. :dis: LSU! is a big school like UT or florida. The powers that be wont EVER let LSU fall to the depths it did during the 90's without rolling some heads. Thats not to say it CANT happen but it wont without some serious carnage.
Here's something that is puzzling... Lee's stats were inflated because he threw so many dang screens where RBs or WRs would take it long. I don't think there was more than one screen today. What gives?
we ran more than 5 different pass plays in the 1st half, maybe not formations but definately more than 5 pass plays. I saw one pass formation that was only run ONCE the whole game. It didnt net us any yardage and maybe thats why but still.

One was thrown to Byrd, and he was hit as soon as he caught it. JJ was under pressure too, but with that defense coming in so fast, it would've been nice to see some dump offs or screens to throw 'em off.
