Today LSU started their third quarterback of the season. The first starting QB, Hatch, a RS sophomore walk-on, was a guy without much arm strength, but who had decent running ability and a good understanding of the offense. The second starting QB of the season, Lee - a RS freshman with less than 5 years of playing experience at QB, has tremendous arm strength and ability, but had no athletic ability and was incredibly inconsistent and had a lot of tremendous unforced errors - particularly when he wasn't able to come off the field for a few snaps to decompress. And the third starting QB, Jefferson a true freshman regarded as a project-recruit, has great athletic ability with good arm-strength. However, Jefferson does not have a good grasp on the offense or the playbook. The number of plays that he knows how to run is incredibly limited, which is why Arkansas was able to game-plan against him so well in the second half. Jefferson was not handcuffed in the 2nd half. He handcuffed himself with his understanding of the playbook. All of this, after the heir-apparent QB was kicked off the team before the season. How many teams have had to resort to their 4th string QB this year? Any team would struggle under such circumstances. Changes will be made on the defensive side of the ball, and the QB's will improve. Our program will continue to prosper.
I pretty much agree but let me just say that if our defense would've been better or improved during the season we would've had a better chance at winning a few more games. Both the QB and defense situation really stood out like a sore thumb.
We lost Georgia and Arkansas because of our defense. We lost Bama because of our offense. Ole Miss and Florida just kicked the **** out of us.
I wasn't aware Jefferson was ever considered a "project" recruit. He was just as highly touted as Lee was coming out of HS.
I can pull the threads from the recruiting forum if you'd like... His mechanics were considered screwey, and it was believe he'd need several years to develop into a good QB.
Well I also don't agree we were more predictable in the 2nd half. Yes, he is limited by his plays. But running Scott into the line to go for zero yards on first down time and time again gives your young QB an uphill battle at succeeding.
Lee had a quick release, was the son of a coach, and had great pocket presence in HS. He was considered a bit of a project, but not as big as Jefferson. Both of these guys weren't being counted on to contribute until a year or 2 from now. Not to mention Hatch who was never counted on to contribute...
OK, let me get this straight. We are LSU! We have 4 QBs on the team and NONE of them are ready for SEC calibur competition? Hmm..... :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
