"We will never know." Cry me a River (pun intended). We know exactly how a young QB with no experience does in the SEC. Look at Lee. Look at JJ. This is not an offense designed for a young QB. The backup QB is the most popular position on the team because people like you are never willing to allow a QB to grow into a position. What multiple issues does Mett have that are so huge? He threw two INTs in the redzone in the first two games, and hasn't done it since. He has fumbled the ball, but everyone on our team appears to be having trouble holding onto the ball. RBs, WRs. . .everyone. Hardly and issue you can pin exclusively on him. The blind side sacks have to do with our line just as much as Mett. The play calling cant be pinned on him. What I see is a young QB that definitely makes some mistakes but is willing to take a hit and make plays. We played 14 games last year and had 2135 passing yards 7.7 ypc 62% accuracy 21 TD 5 Int. Through 5 games this year we're at 1016 yards 8.4ypc 64.5% acc 6 TD 2 int. And he's being asked to throw the ball more. He's on pace to beat last years production in every category. And this is his first year starting. . . What exactly could you ask out of a QB making his 6th start ever for us? Does he need to improve in areas? Yes. Does he need to be benched? Hell no. You just sound stupid suggesting it.
I'm not sure you have looked at the roster but Mettenberger is a Jr..........duh, that does not equate to young in college football. He has made CRITICAL mistakes in the redzone, that means multiple which implies there are SEVERAL problems. The blind side sacks also have to do with the FACT he CAN NOT MOVE and HE HOLDS THE BALL TO LONG!!! I never said bench him, WHAT I SAID, was if he makes mistakes in the remaining schedule and is not replaced then you can "enjoy" and 8-4, or 9-3 season. The season is half over............."growing time" is over and ESPECIALLY for a Jr.
A junior who had damn near zero playing time last season, who also happened to ride the pine behind two "questionable" quarterbacks. Oh and one year of JC. Sorry, but that doesn't scream "experience" to me. Butler Community College is a hell of a lot different from the Southeast Conference.
I'm sorry but that's retarded. A QB with 5 starts ever for our team is past "growing time"???? It's clear you have unrealistic expectations for your QB.
I have to disagree. We are not talking about a "true" freshman. He really does have a hard time making a decision. He can not look the field over to see that he is going to be crushed on his blind side, and he has to be one of the worst QB's when he scrambles out of the pocket. Overrated? Yes. Then again so was Josh Booty. They remind me so much of each other.
A dude that has one year of JR COLLEGE Football experience 2 YEARS AGO is suppose to come into the SEC and roll people? Gtfooh. He's on track to beat or nearly match all of last years passing stats, and that was with a 5th year SR. He definitely has areas he needs to improve in but, You people are crazy.
Wow! Really? against who? We had already played Oregon, Miss State and West Virgina last year. I suppose you think our competition has been the same? Come on Man!!!!!
If we are in a big time SEC game and can't get the ball past the 50 for 3 quarters and you don't at least want to change something up before you obviously lose the game...It don't mean you lose the start the next week, it means this aint f'n workin and Atlanta is at stake...Or it may happen in a national f'n championship game.
