Mett really has had a lot of things working against him this year. The WRs have butter fingers, the OL wasn't protecting him prior to the SC game, and the playcalling did not put him in the best positions to succeed. Despite all that, he's hung tough and did make some nice throws to keep us alive during the SC battle. Coming into the season, I think he was pretty full of himself and thought the role would come easily, but he's now seeing all the moving parts that go into being a successful QB in the SEC. I think that he'll continue to improve, and that he'll improve notably with the bye week. Once he learns how to do the little things like stepping up in the pocket when it collapses, his completion percentage will improve.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, Kimosabe! (Big, big, big ballin' is my hobby) You're the one with the straw man argument, posting a bunch of numbers and stats that basically mean jack shit without deeper analysis, which is what most of your posts are. And as far as developing QBs goes, Miles didn't develop Russell or Flynn, Jimbo Fisher did. I don't care enough about Ok St. to fact check you on that point.
Change noted.............and it only applies to those that get to play. (Was Terence Broadway recruited by LSU)?
Only one QB has come in their first year, and been great. Tommy Hodson I have seen some promising things from the passing game lately. Screens and quick passes that have made me hope that Miles has more up his sleeve for the Bama game. Hopefully, Ware gets to play some wildcat this weekend and gets to throw the rock. Where is Shephard? Would be good to see him line up in the wildcat formation with Ware.
This is a discussion. Sorry if you are a Miles apologist, but he is ONE (and only one) of the several factors contributing to the poor play at QB. All in all, I have always supported CLM, and will continue to do so.
I'm not doubting that CLM recruits and bags some nice QB's, even though he's not a "QB coach". It says a lot for what LSU and Louisiana have to offer.
There are several different types of QB's, which one is the best and how do you know until they end their college career and you base their ranking on what they did for their school? Not saying our Qb(s) recruit/s is/are not worthy, but there have been FAR TOO MANY major recruiting service busts at QB in the last few years. Garrett Gilbert is at the top of the list, I don't think ZM has met the expectations placed upon him. It has become a Hollywood movie set for QB's............has the guy that shunned LSU and went to Notre Dame even seen the field this year??? Did he not hear how he was going to lead them to a NC this year, his first year??? I will take more of the Johnny Manziel types that can just play football and win far more than they lose. Many at TCU thought this season was over when their OFTEN maligned, however not necessarily overrated QB Casey Pachall, got a DUI and was suspended. His replacement, a RS freshman who at least based on the Baylor game appears to be more than ready to replace Pachall and can do more than just throw a football.
No, he's not a QB coach, nor does he claim to be, nor should anyone expect him to be. If anything, he's an OL coach, and a damn fine one, at that. LSU has consistently had excellent OL play since he's been here, and that is probably the most important facet to succeeding in the SEC. Did you see him "coaching up" Vadal Alexander on the sidelines during the first half Saturday? He was giving him very specific advice on his technique, and it clearly worked very well. That said, the QB situation(s) the past several years have been frustrating, and I think that Miles shit on the best QB situation he's ever had here when he permanently benched Jarrett Lee last year. However, he has also not been without some bad luck at the position. Perrilloux was shown the door, Zach Lee never stepped foot on campus, Andrew Hatch got injured in 2008 (not that he was awesome, but he might have been a good game manager for us), and now Mettenberger has had to cut his teeth with an OL that has been plagued with injuries. Yet he has still found a way to consistently keep LSU in the upper-upper-echelon of college football. To that I say, "great job".
I want to believe that we are watching the growth of a young QB. With each game he is building more and more confidence throwing the ball. As he gets more confident, there will be more pass plays called from the booth. I'm hoping that by Alabama game, he is on fire....accuracy better, confidence better, and by adding the improved passing game to the running game that we already have, we run the table.
