Thats good. Perhaps he is learning that if he takes care of his WRs they will take care of him. This can be chauked up to him being inexperienced! Really throwing it away or just kind of lobbing it out of bounds with the possiblity of it being intercepted? That is one thing that I was worried about with Jefferson would he be able to be patiant enough to let plays develop before he would take off running. Damn it, there is one thing I would like to know and where in the hell was the head of the person that evaulates the QB position and deicided on what players we should bring in! Lets just get through this last 3 games and get to the offseason without any major injuries to young players and retool for next year!
Recruiting is not an exact science. We all saw J Lee's HS film. He looked exceptional. You act like a QB recruit has never gone bust before, though I haven't written off Lee after only one season.
I don't think one can really say he got a chance and how can he be as ready as a RSFR who has been playing this whole season. I hope Jefferson gets more PT.
I meant this statement more towards Hatch then anything. Lee's problems are appearing more and more mental then anything! There is no way to get inside a players head and know whats gonna happen. And we just havent seen enough of Jefferson, to form a thought on him yet! But why would you even consider Hatch for a back up roll when he cant throw the ball 10 yards downfield?
I didnt watch the game so I cant say for sure but if AT is right and he was to quick to pull the ball down and just take off it might be a case of not having a full understanding of the playbook..which my understanding has been the knock against this kid all year. And when Troy is already preparing to stop the run having a running QB isnt gonna solve anything.
I did watch the game. I only saw one time where I thought he pulled it down too quick. His other runs looked like good reads. It was pretty obvious that he had a one read and go play call though. I'm sure that was intentional by the coaches. His passing stats are a little misleading. He hit J Mitchell in the bellybutton with a bullet and it was dropped, and he had another real nice throw over the middle that Tolliver slipped in his route. However, he did make two horrible throws that were just way off. The one thing I will say though, is that he has that leadership presence that we have not seen this year. On that 4th down that we didn't get it was him pleading with Miles to let em go for it. He seems confident. Saying all of that, Without Lee's second half, we lose to TROY last night.
See thats what I miss by having to listening to the game. You dont really get to see the intangibles that make the QB position what it is.
Had RP stayed, Hatch would be running the scout teams and getting gatorade for Crowton. As it happened, he was thrust into the #2 spot and, surprise, he beat out Jarrett Lee. He must have some bit of talent,I would imagine. Anyway, he wasn't recruited in the traditional sense. Crowton had a history with him and LSU needed a camp body with smarts.
You may be right...I hadn't considered that. I can see how it would LOOK like he was pulling down early if he was told to make the read and run if it wasn't there. I simply saw him look in one direction for a second or two and then take off. I recall one point in particular where a play or a spot was being reviewed and the team was on the field waiting for the officials to get the ball set. While they were waiting, JJ went across his O-Line and fist-bumped them all in chest, getting them pumped for the next play. When he finished with them, he worked over to a WR and did the same thing. That's something I don't recall ever seeing from Lee and I have to say I was impressed with the rapport he seemed to have with the offense. I sensed that they were more alive and more passionate when he was out there. His numbers don't reflect any of that, but that stuff can't be coached or measured. I still like Lee for his abilities when he's not scared out of his gourd, but I think JJ might REALLY be the best fit for the team if he can at least come close to matching Lee's passing potential even if Lee WERE to find some good consistency. PS: Watching Lee run the draw was painful...but props to the kid for trying something out of his comfort zone.
