I'm not bashing Shepard...only illustrating how bad the backup Quarterback bug is getting here at LSU. Some people are not only giving up on Lee, but they are writing off JJ before they've really seen him play. And anyone who expects RS to come in and be automatically adjusted to the speed of the SEC is on drugs. He'll suffer growing pains just like any other highly touted frosh QB. To illustrate that point, remember J Lee had over 6,000 yards passing for 60+ touchdowns in his last two seasons (better than Shepard is on pace to do, even when you add his rushing stats)...and now look at him against SEC competition.
The difference is this... JLee has lead feet. He hasn't the speed or quick feet to get out of the way of his own shadow. That leads to big losses when the OL or RBs miss blocks, and sometimes, it leads to him throwing the ball "away" to the other team. With Shep, he's 100x's the runner that JLee is, and 20 x's the runner that Hatch is. Blitz him, and he'll be able to burn some defenses. Not saying he is "the answer"...time will tell. Just bringing up a point. I've noticed how much Lee's lack of speed and quickness has been exposed so far this year.
J Russ suffered from the same affliction until the Tennessee game of his last year with us. If J Lee can get a little smarter and/or IF the game slows down for him, he can do the things that J Russ did. The way he played last night, though...ugh. Bama can leave their offense on the plane and still win.
No one has written off Jefferson yet. All that has been said about Shepard is that the people who evaluate talent and players like him are saying that he is ready to come in as a freshman and play. Shepard himself has said that he does NOT want to redshirt and if he is unable to play QB he is ready and willing to step in and help the team at any position that he can.
OK, here's a thought out of left field where I hang out. The announcer mentioned that Richard Murphy won the Class 2A state championship in the javelin toss in his senior year so he must have a pretty good arm. Maybe too late to consider this but maybe we've had a Russell Shepard on the team along along.
I was a spear chunker in my day and I can tell you it is to completely different throwing techniques. Javelin relies more on speed down the runway and the ability to stop on a dime and contort your entire upper body so that everything acts as one large sling shot!
so WHOS fault was it this game......cause as this thread has shown it CAN NOT be LEE????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
It's the defense... :dis: But seriously, Lee will have to murder someone to be benched, and that's a longshot. They guy is terrible and has gotten "digressively" worse as the season has gone on. He plays like garbage with a couple token, lucky plays that are enough to keep him in. Jefferson couldn't possibly have done any worse. Lee is a joke this season, and that is how our program is being viewed this year. What a fall. From the NC's to the feces. Abysmal. I'm slowly losing respect for Miles with every game.
Oh wait sorry HOW could I have forgotten............... Its COLT DAVID fault for missing that FG! DAMN YOU dude with 2 first names!!!
