Staring down the the receiver is a big issue with Lee, but he also made some catchable throws that were either dropped or no effort was made. Your only consistent complaint is on Lee, but the defense gave up 500 yards, and 38 points dude. You can't just remove one part of the game and conclude a certain outcome. Why is our offense expected to score more than 38 points/game? Regardless of pick 6, the defense has still given up HUGE plays, and repeatedly. So much more to harp on besides our QB. I just don't understand this myopic, lightening rod mentality.
Really? That's surprising. After the Florida loss, he said at Monday's press conference that the defense was ready for all the "stuff" that Florida threw at them. He also said that the offensive line blocked well individually, just not as a group. HUH?! I don't like how a coach (Saban) throws players under the bus, but it's another thing to be in denial. I'm glad he actually said something that hints change. I want him to be frustrated, and I hope he really slaps the defensive coordinators and Crowton around, pushing them to quit the mediocrity. There has been no progression thus far.
There are other problems, some pretty big ones. And I talk about those in the Defensive thread but this thread is about the QB position:grin:
You don't think Jefferson is going to step on the field and everything will be OK, do you? Don't you think if he were that much better than Lee or Hatch he would have been playing already? I'm not defending Lee; he had a bad game, and his play has been way too inconsistent. But for the second time in 3 games our defense got carved up. Add the quarterback troubles, and its just time to admit that our team is not as good as we think it is. We will be looking for a bowl win to keep the double-digit win-in-a-season streak going.
No not at all. There are problems that just changing the QB isnt gonna fix. But that would be one down. The thing I dont get, is IF Sheppard does come here, there is talk that he is ready to step right in as a freshman and play good. SO where does that leave Jefferson. Now this is ASSUMING that Jefferson isnt really hurt. If Jefferson is not good enough to overtake Lee, then what chance does he have of ever playing for LSU at all. He might as well transfer and get on with another team. If Lee is better them him then Lee will start next year (I doubt that Sheppard is ready to play) then Jefferson is back up, Sheppard redshirts. The following year I dont see Sheppard sitting out if he is as good as everyone is claiming that he is which means Jefferson is backup again.
even without those 2 picks, we didn't play well enough to win. maybe stopping someone once in a while woudl help He knew it before, just didn't say it publicly. Maybe this will light a fire under Lee's @$$. This was his worse game so far. Kid has a ton of potential, but is making some really poor decisions right now. Those things should improve with time. We need to just sit back and take it right now. Things will get better for us down the road.
Krip...although I am coming around to your way of thinking...seeing what you are talking about and agreeing...I still believe the defense is at the forefront of our problems. How else could we rack up 500 yards of offense and score 38 points and still LOSE THE GAME? Granted, Lee handed over the fourteen points that Georgia won by with his Mister Hyde performance, but without his Dr. Jekkel play, we probably wouldn't have been as close as we were. It's a Lose-Lose. Just the WRONG combination of problems. Perhaps with better QB play, we win the UGA game but I still think we lose at Florida. With better defense, we could have snagged BOTH games and been at the top of everyone's list. Anyway, I'm starting to think that the points of BOTH camps are valid enough to respect.
Look at it this way...3 INTs lead to 17 points. That would have made the score 38-35 we win. And Staffords Td came on a Qb sneak when we were in that "Express" package on the goalline which was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. 4 DE rush the QB no one left on the line he WALKS in from 5 yards out. The defense held 2 potential Heisman candiates to 38 points, thats not great but its not bad either.
Look at it this way. If one of the 1st 4 guys to touch Moreno actually tackles him, take 7 points off for UGA. If anyone in our secondarry had considered it to be a good idea to at least attempt to cover Green, that's another TD UGA doesn't score. If the defense had played at just an average level, we win this game BIG. Yes, Stafford and Moreno are good football players, but how many plays did the D allow that was over 15 yards? WAY too many.
