No one is saying he is solid right now. Most people think he's right about where he should be at this point, maybe slightly ahead of schedule in some areas. Just that others think it is unacceptable that he's not John Elway yet.
Come on I dont expect him to be Elway, this kid couldnt hold Elways jock. He was recruited not a walk on, not a transfer, I think he should play like the star he was supposedly recruited to be!
:geaux::crystal::helmet: For the amount of experience Lee has and the situation he has been put in, I think he's doing great. Is he doing as well as RP would have done? Absolutely not! But Lee is learning in a Trial by Fire and I think he's handling it better than many in his shoes might. I agree with a previous post that said he had "it". I think he does have "it" and will get better with every game. Doesn't mean he won't make mistakes though. Flynn made mistakes and so did J. Russell. You could just about count on the the fact that JR would screw up in the worst possible moment, but he could also just as quickly make a fantastic play. Thing is, I think Lee deserves our support. I hate to see folks trashing him after three games, all huge and on the road. He's 2 -1 which aint too bad for a 19 year old RSFR QB in the SEC for the defending BCS Champs. I think he deserves our support and he will get better. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
No one is expecting him to be Elway right now, but the INTs leading to TDs, telegraphing passes, throwing of his heels, etc. has to stop. I've yet to see him survey the field to find another receiver. He locks on to one guy, and chunks it. Thank God that we have solid recievers... usually. Answer this for me: Why is it that we gash them on the ground for 5-6 yards a run with Williams and Scott, but they stop running when they are gaining momentum? I understand that you don't want to be one-dimensional, but LSU appears to be passing to set up the run, rather than running to set up the pass, which is the far better option. Play-action doesn't seem to phase the defense this year, or at least not very much.
Who was the last QB LSU recruited to come in and play like a star his freshman year? JR? Nope, he couldn't beat out Marcus Randall Flynn? Nope, didn't play as a freshman Mauck? Nope Rohan? Nope Nall? Nope Booty? Nope Herb Tyler? Jamie Howard? Let me know if you think of any since Tommy Hodson.
It just seems like people are complaining that he is currently at about the level he should be in his development. The guy only played 2 years of High School ball, then went a year with ZERO game action, and now is struggling a bit to adjust to the speed of the game. It should be EXPECTED for him to be performing inconsistently right now.
probably right in your assessment elway himself couldn't hold his own jock (comparatively speaking) when he was a freshman compared to what he would become http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskies/2003853689_pacfrosh26.htmlock not really fair. an impossibly subjective standard. some would say that winning 2of 3 on the road in the SEC is pretty impressive for a rsf qb. are you holding those other "star" recruits to the same standard? another prespective: http://cfn.scout.com/2/802500.html
I have a different take on this. I hate the two QB strategy. Hatch (and Holliday for that matter) are completely predictable when they're in the game. And Hatch's playing time is taking time and rhythm away from Lee. Lee has not played consistently yet. Nor has he looked great when he senses pressure. But playing 75% of the game is not the answer. I think Lee is doing fine - not great, not horrid - just fine. LSU won't win on his shoulders. But LSU shouldn't have to win on his shoulders. The OL is (supposed to be) very good. The receivers are (supposed to be) very good. Our running backs are (supposed to be) very good. LET LEE PLAY. Andrew Hatch doesn't bring enough to the equation to justify telegraphing whether the defense should stack the box or not. I like Hatch. He should be our cleanup guy against Tulane and Troy (I hope!!). But let Lee play and prove he can beat UGA and Bama in Death Valley.
Well put:thumb: I agree that Lee should be allowed to play as much as possible. However, the seemless switching of the QB's during the Carolina game did seem effective; nicely change the pace and the looks of the offense that kept the Carolina defense guessing. I see Hatch coming in similar to Perrilloux's role last season with Flynn, with Lee still the main QB. Mile//Crowton seems to have used the dual QB's well.
I've got no argument with any of that except that Lee is not Flynn. I think he needs the snaps and the confidence going into the stretch.
