Is Lee a championship caliber QB right now? No. Will he eventually become one? I think so Is he a better passing option right now than Hatch or the injured Jefferson? Yes. Has Lee now WON 2 games on the road against STOUT SEC defenses for us? Yes. I'm sure we will do that, but lets also come back in a couple of years when he figures this game out and becomes a stud. Yeah because after winning BOTH games we asked him to win for us, no reason to believe he could ever do it again. I still see defense as a much bigger concern than QB. His style of play will win us even more games in the future. Nerves and jitters is part of the problem I'm sure. Also, he's not reading the defenses fast enough, so he sees thing when they happen instead of before. This causes him to have to rush or force his throws. To me, this more a reason for his "off throws" than just bad timing or pooor accuracy. When the game slows down for him (which it will), he's going to be one hell of a QB. One you will damn proud to have in Purple and Geauxld, and one that will do special things for the Tigers. I think he has "it". It is only a matter of time before "it" comes out in full force for us.
I also think Lee is the best chance we have to win. I think that is a sad statement being that we are the defending National Champions, and the only program to have two Crystal footballs. I think we have to all consider the possibility that a mistake was made in evaluating Lee's talents, but also consider the possibility that he is just taking a while to "get it." The things I like about Lee: --has a live arm --plays confident (don't know why, but he does) --gets right back up after bad plays. The things I don't like --very inaccurate on a lot of his throws --has no field vision --no progressions to secondary receivers --concrete shoes The thing is, I would not be surprised if Lee fell off the face of the football planet after this season, but I would not be surprised if he started for the Tigers for the next three years either. The hardest thing to figure out is if he is just a slow learner, or if he knows it but can't make it happen. He could go either way. Hatch makes Lee's life easier, I think that is the only FACT we can take from last nights game.
Because as we know, all Freshman QB's who have only started 3 games (2 of which were on the road), average way more than 60% comp, 7.4+ yards a pass, and a QB rating that puts him in the top half of the SEC. AMIRITE?
Try reading an entire post, and not just picking out the words you want to see. It will probably change your feelings about a lot of things if that is how you read everything.
I do see his innaccuracies. I don't think it's AS BAD as you and a few others make it out to be. You see it as simply being a timing issue that you fel will never be corrected. I think that's incorrect. He does not anticipate a play very well, due to inexperience. As of now, he can't see that a guy is about to be open and throw accordingly. He doesn't see it until it happens (which is too late) which in turn makes him have to rush and force his passes. Rushing your throw is a wonderful way to affect accuracy. I can already see this getting better for him. On those 3 deep routes to Byrd, he just trusted his wide-out (one Byrd missed, one he overthrew Byrd, one Byrd caught). He did exactly what he needed to, chuck it out there, and let Byrd outrun people. In this regard, he is already ahead of where JR was half way through his Junior year. JR would wait until AFTER the DB was beat before slinging it. Lee is already making that throw in anticipation of the DB getting burnt. If and when he gets to this point on the underneath and mid-range passes, his game will elevate VERY quickly. To me, this is all he is lacking, and I truly believe he will figure this out and become a great one for us. It may not happen this year, but it WILL happen. We just have to be patient and understand that he will make mistakes during this tough stretch.
Damn Nootch, this may be the most offbase statement you've ever made. Lee is not now, nor will he ever be ahead of JR in any quarterbacking category. JR was better as a freshman in HS that LEE is now. This is not a knock on Lee, it's just how good JR was.
I guess you know more about football than Miles, Crowton, and the rest of the offensive coaches at LSU. I hope they read this thread so they'll know what's best for the team. Thanks for the feedback Crip! :thumb: :huh::insane::insane:
I'm not saying Lee is a better QB than JR was as a RSFR. What I am saying is that until the 2nd half of the Tennessee game ('06), JR never anticipated the WR getting open on the deep routes. He never released the ball until the guy had already beaten the DB. JR had the arm strength to get away with this, so it never really showed up. Lee on the other hand, sees it before it happens, and puts it where it needs to be AS the guy is pulling away.
