I don't blame Chavis I blame that weak ass d-line. They got pushed around all year. That's possibly the worst group I can ever remember. That's why I'm skeptical about the defense this year. I don't think ,that just by having coach O, the defensive line is going to be that much better. I hope I'm wrong but if the d-line is suspect it's going to be a long season. I think it's more important than the QB. 2013 is a good example of that
You could have Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders but if you can't get them the ball with some space they are going to get stuffed at the line. We need to at least make the opposition respect the pass enough to not put 8 in the box on every down.
I also believe that our defensive line play will be much better this season. I am one who puts stock into believing that at the college level, coaching can get great play out of average players. Sh!t doesn't fly so much in the NFL, but I see it all over the field in college. I think Coach O puts a much needed spark back into protecting the defensive reputation at LSU. I think the inexperience may and most likely will burn us on a few plays this year, but we will see more heart than we have seen the past few seasons.
That's an excellent point, you could point to TCU and Baylor to lend credence to that line of thought.
There is a reason the DL coach was sent packing. I think O makes a big difference in technique and philosophy. Are we loaded with talent at DL? No, but it think O will be noticeably better at developing it and motivating it.
