It doesn't completely take the sting away from losing Lee.

But Barrett Bailey isn't a normal walk-on from what I hear and read. So while we're definitely thinner than anyone would like us to be, maybe this is a local boy's chance to turn his decision to walk-on into a purple-and-golden opportunity.

Sorry to pump sunshine, but I figger we need it after the last couple days!

    Geaux Barrett Bailey!

Don't know anything about how he has progressed, but there's also TC McCartney - anyone know anything about his play? :eek:ldskule:

Bandit, I appreciate the effort and I'd like to see a walk-on come in and make a difference for the team... it's the stuff legends are made of.. :thumb:

However that being said, we don't even know if Lee would have done well in college football or not. I know everyone says he looked good at the scrimmage, but the other Lee looks pretty impressive at scrimmages and practices too. I know ZL's stats were impressive coming out of highschool, but JL's stats were too (0 int's his senior year)... Nobody ever thought he would do as bad as he did in '08. Just like nobody knows that ZL would have come in and saved the world as a true freshman. I do agree however, that we are in a bit of a pickle for the future with that position, and I don't like it.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade and I'm not talking about you here. I'm just saying that people are going a bit overboard on this whole Lee thing, IMHO. The kid's barely caught his plane to California, and there are people in this town that are ready to skip football season this year because it's not even worth going out on the field now. Some of our fans need to put their feet back on the ground and get a grip.

I say, how about this... Let's see what #9 and #12 do for us this year before we throw them under the seats in the stadium, with the trampled nachos, and start asking every other kid on the team with an arm to take snaps... It is what it is, we got who we got, and the season is less than 20 days out. Man, I love pre-season nerves... :geauxtige

Pretty amusing. Barrett Bailey passed on a scholarship offer to Northwestern St. to walk on at LSU. Chris Garret took a scholarship offer to LSU, but now transferred to Northwestern St.

Maybe Barrett, not Garrett, was the real SEC caliber qb at LSU all along!

For what it's worth, Matt Moskona, who attends the open LSU practices, from 104.5 EPSN radio in Baton Rouge said that today's practice was pretty lifeless. He mentioned, though, that McCartney was taking snaps and throwing short passing routes.

He went on to say that prior to today, if McCartney or Barrett threw a bad pass, Crowton wouldn't say anything, but if Z.Lee, J.Lee or Jefferson did, we would go up to them and coach them on their technique, what they did wrong, etc.

Today, apparently, McCartney was having problems with simple 5 yard routes/slants, and it was the first time Moskona had seen Crowton go up to one of the walk-ons and say something. If true, this isn't very encouraging.

So, obviously, there is suddenly a sense of urgency since the walk-ons are being treated as actual players now.

If it was the first time he'd seen the walk-ons being coached, it's because it's the first time he looked.

They've always been treated like everyone else.
