They could also look at LSU with RP and JL, and decide this is not the best year to sign with LSU.

Every team has competition, and if you were looking to avoid competition for playing time, i don't think Jarrett Lee would be the scariest competition out there. I'd be more scared of a guy like Tebow, Colt McCoy, that kid at Michigan, etc.

My boss, a Rutgers fan, told me that D.C. Jefferson has committed to Rutgers. Rivals confirmed it.

It does indeed look like DC Jefferson is going to Rutgers.

Also, for what it's worth, Ryan Griffin was demoted by Rivals from 3-star to 2-star. He was one whose film seemed to impress everyone but me.

Personally, I think we should go ahead and take a commitment from a QB "athlete" who can play another position, like a Darron Thomas. It doesn't look like we'll be persuading a real top flight QB this year, and the prospect for the 2009 class looks pretty strong. We should punt on the QB situation and look forward to next year.

Yeah, NOW because you've seen what he can do during the course of a season! ...but entering his freshman season at Texas, McCoy was nothing more than a 3-star QB...which goes to show you that even those 3-star-rated guys prove that they can be severly underrated heading into college.

Lee's highschool clips aren't that much different from that of McCoy's. Does that mean Lee will have the same success? Hardly. Lots of things need to happen and there's no guarantee that McCoy will continue to improve on what is already shaping up to be a great collegiate career...but at least they begin with the same expectations/potential.

Yea, supposedly caught our coaching staff pretty off guard. He's still planning on taking visits though, so it's not over.

Personally, I'm holding out hope for EJ Manuel. If FSU's offense still sucks or Jimbo bolts for a head coaching job somewhere I think we'll be back in it. Hell, if ND loses 6 games like some are predicting we may be back in it with Dayne Crist.

Our coaching staff likes what they have seen of Jordan Jefferson, but I do not believe that he would be a QB we'd offer ordinarily.

Well, McCoy IS proven, whereas Lee is not. But that's really beside my point. My point is that I don't think a big-time QB is being scared off by the competition at LSU. If you're a high school QB looking to get playing time, who do you try to avoid being behind? Tebow and Brantley at Florida? Mallett at Michigan? Clausen at Notre Dame? Whoever recently signed with USC? Or Jarrett Lee at LSU? If I'm an elite high school QB and I'm looking to go to a top-notch program, I probably look at LSU as a place where the competition isn't particularly scary. Of course, I could go to a place like Bama where the competition is even weaker, but among elite programs LSU doesn't have a particularly scary group of QBs for a 2008 or 2009 recruit to worry about.

This is not to say Lee won't be good. He very well could be very very good. But I doubt guys like EJ Manual, Dayne Crist, etc. were really turned off of LSU because of his presence.

Me too. I saw that Darrell Scott and EJ Manuel have become good friends. Maybe if we can get Scott onboard he could sway Manuel. FSU is looking at it a plus for them but it could work out in our favor. It's a long shot I know but those two would sure round out this class nicely.
