So do I, which is why I said we take one...but not two, like we were looking to do earlier this year.
You can't trust a "silent commit". A silent commit is often a guy who isn't really committed or a guy who isn't sure enough to tell people. They fall through quite a lot. Don't trust it until he tells the media.
Forgive me if I'm not over joyed in getting a guy who's only offer is as of now is Ole Miss. I just can understand how LSU cannot get a top caliber QB considering all we have going for us. Top 5 ranking, chance to compete for MNCs, new spread offense being installed, best game day atmosphere in the nation, and I can go on. Looks like losing Jimbo hurts more than I thought.
Losing Jimbo affected us with EJ Manuel. But other than that, there just aren't many good QBs out there this year. Once Crowton's offense lights up the SEC this year recruits will like him a lot more. Right now he's a bit of an unknown with recruits because nobody's sure how well his offense will work. I'm not excited about Jordan Jefferson either, and I think it will be a rare case where we settle for a recruit, which we haven't had to do the past several years. However, the guy was impressive before he got injured last year & could have a strong senior year. He's done fine at LSU's camps, so it's not like he's a scrub.
What about Terrelle Pryor, Star Jackson, or Robert Griffin? All unsigned right now. Jackson and Griffin are right in our recruiting zone and Pryor is clearly considering long distance options. I know LA is down this year in the QB department but look at the list of 4/5 star QBs that have committed to schools outside their state. We should be able to compete with or beat any one of these programs in recruiting for out of state talent. E.J. Manuel(VA) - FSU Blaine Gabbert(MO) - Nebraska Dayne Crist(CA) - ND Mike Glennon(VA) - NC State Landry Jones(NM) - Oklahoma Sean Renfree(AZ) - Georgia Tech Andrew Luck(TX) - Stanford...Dudes from Houston how'd we miss him?
This is the only QB on your list in our region, and look at the school he picked. Stanford. Obviously he didn't make his choice on tradition, program strength or anything else the typical recruit makes his decision on.
I think we're on par for the course with reguards to the QB position as it relates to the effects of losing your OC and replacing him with one that spent the past few seasons on the West coast--out of sight from the majority of the QB recruits that we are actually after. LSU primarily recruits players in the southeast. Those players are familiar with Jimbo, yes, but after a year or two of getting to watch Crowton's offense, I'm sure it'll turn a few players on, or back on, to us soon enough. Remember, Oregon's offense under Crowton averaged over 200 passing yards per game AND ave 186 rushing yards per game.
