JR and Flynn came the same year. Then we got Perrilloux. Then nothing till Jarrett Lee. It appears Crowton thought we were too thin at QB and brought in Hatch to supplement. A very smart observation by Crowton, and good pickup on Andrew. Hatch may not be a world beater, but he appears serviceable and may grow into more. But, it appears we did not sign enough QB prospects the last 4 years. Was it because we had so much talent on the roster with JR, Flynn, and RP that nobody would come here? Now we lose RP, and we are bereft of experience. Seems the coaches put us in this situation. Unless they tried and the kids just wouldn't come here. I'm happy to see Jefferson show up. I'm interested in your thoughts on recruiting at the QB spot the last 4 years.
There is no way you can blame the coaches for this. They didn't know RP would stay in trouble. This has been one of our main problems over the years we've had too big of a gap with QBs and O-linemen. I thought with RP we had solved this and we could just keep rolling with mature QBs. I still think we will have a great season inspite of the guys we have now lack of experience. I know we have two guys coming in next year but I hope we take another QB next year to redshirt and set on the bench for a few years.
I'm not ready to say we can't win the SEC with either of these two guys. It's too early. Our QB recruiting has been just fine. RP turned out to be a bust. Noone could've predicted that.
Last year LSU came in 2nd place for two of the top QB's in the country in Crist & EJ Manuel. We also had a commitment from DC Jefferson before parting ways & we landed Jordan Jefferson. The year before ('07), we recruited Cameron Newton and Clausen, and got Lee. In '06, we got an early commitment from Alex Cate, but went seperate ways later on. We also recruited Tebow. In '05, we got Perrilloux. Without knowing that RP would get kicked off the team, our QB spacing looks pretty good. Of course, landing a guy in '06 would've been ideal knowing what we know now. In '04, I don't think we recruited any QB's.
It would have been nice to get Crist or Manuel, I dont know what situation they would be in right now, had either committed to LSU. Hard to say with the situation we are in right now.
Oh really, I didnt know that. for some reason, I thought Manuel was playing this year from something I read about him and Jermaine Thomas. Thanks for that knowledge.
