These are Matthew Stafford's stats for 2006, his freshman year. Thats 7 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Here is what was said about him before this season began:

"Stafford threw 13 interceptions as compared to just seven touchdowns his freshman year, but improved that to 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2007. He'll need another jump like that to cash in on Georgia's national title hopes. And I think he'll get it.

The junior has always thrown a hard ball (highly-touted freshman receiver AJ Green said Tuesday that the first ball the QB threw his way "about hit me in the mouth"), but it's the more cerebral parts of the game that will make the difference this year. And teammates say it already has.

He looks more confident right now, he's throwing the ball real well," senior receiver Kenneth Harris said. "I feel like he's dropped some weight, he's been doing real well in the pocket and seeing things a lot different."

With an experienced, though often overshadowed, Georgia defense that looks to give Stafford and the offense plenty of scoring chances this season, number seven will have to take advantage. And he will."

Appears as though Lee is on the same path that Stafford followed. Lee is going to be a good quarterback before he leaves LSU. Like Staffor has mastered this year, Lee is going to have to absorb the "cerebral" parts of the game. We simply don't have a QB on our roster who has the experience and/or confidence to really be effective at running an offense that can be at the top of the SEC. Very little margin for error exists when you are playing the very best. There have been hints that JJ may get some playing time. I'm afraid that he may struggle just as Lee has with the mental part of the game.

I'm not sure if this qualifies him to be on the same path or not. He's not really improving so that's hard to judge. I'm going to be on the side of the fence that's hopeful that Shepard can step up and take over this team at some point next year.

Without a Defense it won't matter.

And true freshmen don't just come in and take a team over...unless his name is Terrell Pryor and his elder peers are ALL garbage.

I'm going to say that there is a good chance that ONE of either Lee or JJ will be SEC ready by the meat of next year's sked. There will be a lot of competition there.

Regarding Lee and his development, a lot of comments on the board say that he is not improving. Granted, the three picks vs UGA were not pretty, and at times he looks confused; however, it seems to me he's showing some positives. An example is the pass to Keiland Williams that went for 60+ yards --I thought that showed something positive. If I recall it correctly it was a broken play and could have resulted in a sack or some sort of negative play.

In any case, I agree with what's stated in the above posts. He really is our best option right now and we need to be patient.

    Now the defense...

he's gonna be fine. picks are gonna happen, especially when you depend on him.

the D allowing so many big plays was more unforgivable.
