We're not talking about the Oregon program now are we??? I didn't say anything about what kind of TEAM any of the schools Crowton coached at were--I'm focusing on what he did with the QB's on those teams. ...ugh...and besides, I mentioned ONE QB in the NFL that was from Oregon. You make it sound like I based my whole opinion on Oregon QB's....
Same here. With the way some people were talking down on him, I was expecting to see some god-awful performance/poor mechanics, etc. But what I saw was a duel-threat QB--nothing blazing with the "wheels"--but certainly effective, and a QB with good touch. Didn't seem to display a whole lot of arm strength, but when you've spent the past 3 years watching a QB that is widely considered to have the strongest arm ever, like we have, you tend to get spoiled. Like you said, if Elway was located in the south, he'd be getting lots of attention from us, 'Bama, Auburn, Florida State, etc.
I watched his videos and he didn't look too bad. I would have liked to have seen more clips of him throwing down field though. It's hard to get a good read on a guy from 2 yard WR screens.
Jack Elway Are we still recruiting Jack Elway? His dad is now his QB coach. I wonder if that would change anything. He has taken unofficials to Oregon and UCLA
Re: Jack Elway I haven't heard anything about him in quite a while, so I'd imagine that we've backed off, but that's just speculation. I doubt his dad being his QB coach will change anything.
Re: Jack Elway I wouldnt mind getting him even if he was a backup his whole career. Having John Elway in the stands at games would make our program look good. And we could tell recruits "Elway wanted the best for his son, so he sent him to our school".
Re: Jack Elway And they would say, why haven't you developed him into anything special? You don't throw away scholarships for PR. I'm not saying that accepting a commitment from Elway would be throwing away a scholarship, but if we don't think he's LSU material, then he's not LSU material regardless of who his father is.
Part of me would like to see Elway at LSU so we would get the the publicity and more people would watch LSU to see John's son play but at the same time if he is not a great qb then we might run into the same situation where we had to play Booty instead of Davey who was the better qb. Crowton seems to know what he is doing with qbs but I have to believe a lot of the hype with this kid is because he is John's son.
