Yes, he's one of those Elways. He holds offers from us and Oregon

Crowton started recruiting him at Oregon and now is recruiting him for us. He recently visited him.

I've heard he's not very good, but it looks like he may just be very raw. On his Scout profile, it says he lacks consistency and accuracy, but that he has really good upside.

If we take 2 QBs this year, and one is E.J. Manuel (or another top rated QB), Jack would be a great #2 to have on the roster.

I can't help but wonder... how in the world is the son of John Elway a "raw" QB prospect? Even if it's not his dad for whatever reason, shouldn't this kid have access to the best coaching/mentoring?

As for the staff's QB recruiting, what's been said is that they want 1 prototype, big QB such as Manuel (or Crist would have been), and one athletic dual-threat type such as Darron Thomas.

I thought the same thing. Usually a QB growing up in that type of situation is very technically sound.

I'm far from sold on Darron Thomas as a QB. He'll be a 3 star QB, but could be a 4 star WR.

Interesting cause I was wondering just the opposite along those lines and questioning how much attn. (Neither here nor there to me though) he's getting solely based on his dad's name.

Good point about "Even if it's not his dad", I can think of a BIG reason for it not to be his dad. Too often with parents "Coaching" their children, the two relationships get blurred and the constructive criticism the athlete in this situation hears hurts twice, as they are hearing it from a person who is their coach and also the person who is their parent.

But I think the upside if he were to come here benefits us. Even in a backup role, once you get John Elway's son...c'mon?! How can that not be a good PR boost??? And if he were, at worst, a backup, then so be it.

He won't get a scholarship unless he's good enough, regardless of who his dad is. I agree that there would be some, probably minimal, positive PR associated with it, but not enough to warrant a 4 year scholarship space eater.

    Let him walk on.....he shouldn't need a scholarship with Elway's $$.

If he pans out, he'll be drafted, leave LSU with a degree, and a job in the NFL.

It becomes a recipe for disaster especially if the controlling parent CANNOT coach. I'm seeing that on my son's Little Leauge team with a kid that has lots of potential but we (his coaches) can't do anything with him b/c of the dad. We politely asked him to quit yelling at his son after each pitch is thrown while he is batting etc., all to no avail. The father is a very nice guy otherwise but he has his son batting and pitching in a very unortodox manner. The kid feels the pressure and doesn't produce like he can. Okay, enough, none of you probably wanted to read this here but I had to vent, we had a doulbe header Saturday and had to hear him yell for almost five hours.

I know the parent you're talking about. Every team has one. I always wonder if dads like this ever played baseball or any other sport. On the other side, I've seen a major leaguer come to watch his son play and he just sat quietly except to occasionally encourage all the kids, clapped politely, and watched the game.
