espn replays the '11 game all the time... lee was stinking it up (per his usual against bama)... les pulled him before the game got out of hand... here's his stats against the elephants; '08 - 13/34 atts for 181yds, 1/4 (td/int) and a pick 6, '09 - 4/10 for 44 yds, 0/1 (td/int), '10 - 4/7 for 67 yds, 0/0 (td/int), '11 - 3/7 for 24 yds, 0/2 (td/int)... so he was a combined 1 td and 7 ints against bama... he threw the same amount of tds to us as he did to them...
When JJ came into the Alabama game and ran the option at least well enough to give LSU good enough field position to kick field goals. When it was announced that the BCS title game would be a rematch I knew right then that Les was going to try to beat the Gumps with the option and that Saban would be ready for it. What I didn't foresee was that the Tiger offense would be so totally shut down. The defense played a great game and it was a lot closer than the final score of 21-0. They finally wore down because they barely had time to drink a cup of Gatoraid before they wore back on the field. Yes, I know that Lee's career statistics against Bama were abysmal but when JJ hadn't moved the offense past the 50 yard line in 3 quarters what is there to lose if you give Lee one last shot at it?
Exactly. If CLM pulled Lee b/c he was "stinking it up" and "before the game got out of hand", why did he not do the same to JJ? I hate rehashing this crap, but I think we could have all gotten past it much quicker and easier if we felt that we really used all of our resources and really went into that game to win it. I think the players did, but it sure seemed like CLM gave up in the second half, particularly late in the 3rd qtr when things were still close. If he inserted Lee, and he stunk it up, there would be no what-ifs, except whether he should then insert Mett late, LOL. So, this Hayden Rettig thread has turned into LSU-ALA all over again? How surprising, LOL!
T Bob Hebert also didn't play a down in that game. Not that he would have made the difference but even though he had lost his starting position he was still a regular backup at guard and center. Maybe they didn't need him because nobody on the offense was on the field long enough to get tired. That could be what Bobby Hebert was so mad about after the game
I agree with you about the championship game that Lee should've been given a chance after the way the game was going and we should've tried everything... Somebody brought up Lee and jj and I was just pointing of that Lee wasn't the guy that people think they remember... I didn't post jj's stats because i didn't want to look like i was defending him but he player way better against bama than Lee... Drop back passers don't guarantee success and mobile passers don't guarantee failure... Let's give the guys we have a chance first before we assume that they're going to fail is all I'm saying...
I don't know that I would say Harris is a far superior passer than Lee at this stage, arm strength yes, but a passer? I'll need to see more, could very well be true.
