Can't remember his name, eh? Andrew Hatch was actually on scholarship when he started. He was a scholarship athlete or he wouldn't have had to sit out a year before playing at Harvard. He was recruited as a scholarship athlete at Harvard then transferred to LSU to follow Crowton after his Mormon mission. He signed as a walk-on because LSU was at the 85 limit in the summer of 2007. As soon as a scholarship was available he got it. Not your typical walk-on.
Hayden Rettig and Stephen Rivers were passed because of Miles' boner for Brandon Harris. As Jarrett Lee was screwed his last season because of Miles' boner for Jordan Jefferson. There I said it. Will the Miles' dick riders change their tune if Stephen Rivers and Hayden Rettig turn out to have better careers than Brandon Harris?
It's obvious that LSU is more interested in a running back as QB. It's not a knock against LSU or Rettig, .... but it serves both, that Rettig needs to be at a program that will play to and highlight his skills. I don't see that type of format in the future for LSU. To say the least, I'm not impressed with Jennings passing abilities, he just doesn't have the arm .... haven't seen Harris, I hear he is better. BUT .. really, what need is there for a good arm in a run only offense. An adequate arm for short stints is plenty to keep the defense off balance.
Will you change your tune if they don't have better careers than Harris? And what type of nuclear meltdown would the recruiting board have had if Harris had chosen to play elsewhere?
I just don't understand why LSU would recruit him in the first place and waste both of their time, if this was going to be the case. Further, you ran an offense that worked for Mettenberger, you have someone like Rivers that is similar in fashion, and had a year under the same playbook. The o-line has a year under their belt and more experience than last season with the blocking schemes in place. Why would you want to change everything up and throw a young QB to the wolves instead of continuing what worked the season before?
Not bringing an in state guy to LSU, doesn't do more harm to recruiting than bringing a top guy in from another state, and putting the screws to him.
Change everything up? We have a new OL coach, should we have stayed with Studs? Cam uses what he has as strengths. Last year it was a NFL armed QB, two NFL WR's and an NFL RB. All OC do this, they use whats best. Kind of tired the bashing on the QB's, the ones that left and the ones that are here. The ones that left, wish them the best. The ones that stayed, GEAUX TIGERS........
