Darron Thomas is 6' 3" - 6' 4"...wasn't Herb about 5' 10"? It does seem an interesting comparison as Darron does appear to have moves like Herb.

I believe you are correct, I believe they had to have Herb role out or in the
shotgun so that he could see over the offensive line?
    A tall Herb Tyler.:)
I love you Herb and miss you in a good way of course!:yelwink2:

I don't like this guy as a QB for LSU. The QB's LSU recruit should be pure QB's, and they shouldn't be getting recruited by other schools as WR's or DB's. Did Jamarcus, Flynn, RP, or Lee get recruited to play other positions by smaller schools. That would be a big no. I will take him as a DB, but I would not be comfortable putting the program on his shoulders as a QB.

Have you seen Any film on Darron Thomas? You're trying to say you don't like Thomas because he happens to be an exceptional athlete?

Yes, I watched his videos, and yes he is an exceptional athlete. But thats what he is, an exceptional athlete with questionable SEC arm strength. That is why Rice and OSU want him as a WR, and Missouri wants him as a DB. He just happens to be the best athlete in his school, and they want him to touch the ball as often as possible.

Did you see his passing stats for last year? 6 td's, 4 int, and 10 rushing td's. That sounds like a WR playing QB to me.

I can only see LSU taking him at QB if the other 6 or so QB's in front of him turn us down. LSU would switch his position if he came to LSU.

You must remember he is not our 1st or 2nd or 5th QB choice...he is a guy the staff would like to have - as a qb or wr or whatever, when they secure another traditionally ranked QB prospect. You also must remember we no longer run an offense like the one we've been accustomed to for a while now - an athletic QB with medium to short range and a lot of athletic ability is an ideal QB for Crowton's system. Thomas fits that bill, and on top of that he is versatile enough to make his recruitment important. I think he's a better WR prospect, but either way he's worth a scholarship.

    yeah I read that article:

Dunno..maybe he is a better WR right now. I watched his films again, but it's hard to tell his true arm strength in those videos IMO. Probably doesn't hurt that he's Dom Davis' cousin though.

I think, to me, with a player of his versatility (the fact that so many different programs want him at different positions is testiment to his versatility), the big thing is to just get signed and on campus.

If CLM and the staff is high enough on him, they must see things that us novices do not. And as far as trust goes, well...CLM has done nothing to get me to doubt his abilities to recruit and judge talent.

Get Thomas in a Tiger uniform, let him go through a year of the training program, steadily evaluate his abilities and depth of the team at all of the positions he's capable of playing and THEN make a decision as to where he should be used.

The main thing with some of these recruits is that they are used to being the "big dog" on the campus they are currently at, and most of them ultimately choose to go to a school that will allow them to play at the position that THEY want. The QB position is the most highly-touted and highly reguarded position on any team, so a player that wants to be "that guy" is more likely to sign with a program that offers him the chance to come in and compete for that position.

Not saying that Thomas couldn't make a good QB in the mold of a Herb Tyler (where he won't dazzle much with his arm, but made good decisions most of the time and was an above average player), but even IF he comes here, and in the early going of his collegiate career he realizes that he's possibly not cut out to be the starting QB, chances are he'll be open-minded enough to listen to the staff as to what other position gets him on the field faster and more importantly, helps the team win games.

That's why I'm personally high on Thomas. Not nec. because he's a QB powerhouse, but because he offers so much in the terms of athletic ability. The fact that he's got, at the very least, SOME skills as a QB is a big plus, IMO.
